【表】DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION The present invention relates to a method for finishing metallic coatings.
More specifically, in a two-coat, one-bake painting method in which a pigment-free top coat is applied and baked on a base coat containing aluminum powder and/or pigment, the compatibility of the base resin and melamine resin blended in the base coat is evaluated. In membrane permeability
This invention relates to a metallic paint finishing method characterized by a coating finish of 80% or more. In the two-coat, one-bake coating method, the top coat is applied 2 to 3 minutes after the base coat is applied. In order to obtain a metallic feel that satisfies these conditions, the base resin used for the base coat and the base resin used for the top coat are designed to have very poor compatibility. This is because if the resins have good compatibility, so-called "return unevenness" will occur. That is, the base coat and top coat tend to mix, which causes the metallic powder and pigments contained in the base coat to move. In addition, since the base coat and top coat are quite different paints, their chemical characteristics,
Problems often arise because physical properties also differ. A problem that has traditionally been a big problem is that after a top coat is applied to a base coat, the base coat film breaks within a few minutes. The film breakage phenomenon is a phenomenon in which when a top coat is applied after a base coat is applied as shown in Fig. 1, the base coat breaks off several minutes later as shown in Fig. 2. Hereinafter, this phenomenon will be referred to as "film breakage". When such film breakage occurs, the surface of the coating film becomes uneven, which significantly impairs the appearance. The inventor of the present invention has elucidated such a membrane breakage phenomenon and has conducted extensive research to solve the defect, and as a result, has completed the present invention. That is, in the present invention, a paint (base coat) mainly composed of a base resin that cures and crosslinks with a melamine resin is applied, which is mixed with metallic powder and a colored pigment as necessary, and then a thermosetting resin is applied to the painted surface. In the metallic painting finishing method, in which a solvent-based paint (top coat) is applied as a component and then heated and cured, the compatibility between the base resin and melamine resin blended in the base coat is determined by the transmittance of the paint film of 80. % or more. As a result of various investigations to elucidate the above film breakage phenomenon that occurs in the two-coat, one-bake painting method, the inventor of the present invention found that the melamine resin contained in the base coat and the base resin have poor compatibility and exhibit a colloidal dispersion state. I found out that this was the cause. If this phase separation is severe, the melamine resin will easily dissolve due to the dissolving power of the diluting thinner contained in the top coat and will move to the upper layer of the top coat. It was found that this action facilitates the generation of convection at the interface between the base coat and top coat, leading to breakage of the base coat. As a solution to avoid this membrane tearing phenomenon,
It is possible to remove the melamine resin, but this is difficult due to the desired coating performance. Therefore, this problem was solved by blending a specific base resin that has relatively good compatibility with the melamine resin. In the present invention, in order to quantify the compatibility, we decided to measure the transmittance of the coating film at a wavelength of 4000 Å using a spectrophotometer. In this case, the difference in compatibility becomes most obvious at 4000 Å. Usually, the blending ratio of the base resin and melamine resin in the base coat is in the range of 70:30 to 80:20 in weight solids ratio in most cases. In this compounding ratio, if the transmittance is less than 80%, film breakage of the base coat will occur, but if the resin composition has a transmittance of 80% or more, preferably 85% or more, no film breakage will occur. The base resin for the base coat used in the present invention may be any resin as long as it cures and crosslinks with the melamine resin when heated and the transmittance of the coating film used in combination with the melamine resin is 80% or more. Examples include one or a mixture of two or more of acrylic resins, alkyd resins, urethane resins, polyester resins, and epoxy resins. However, when using epoxy resin, it is used as a mixed system with other resins. In addition to these resins, resins that do not undergo curing and crosslinking reactions, such as
Cellulose acetate butyrate resin or the like may also be used. Among these, acrylic resin is most preferred from the viewpoint of weather resistance. Furthermore, melamine resin, metallic powder, etc. are blended with these base resins. The metallic powder blended into the base coat in this case and the colored pigment blended as necessary may be those used in conventional paints. For example, the metallic powder may include aluminum powder, copper powder, mica powder,
Mica-like powder coated with titanium oxide,
Examples include MIO (micaceous iron oxide), and ordinary paint pigments can be used as coloring pigments. The top coat used in the present invention may be any coating material as long as it contains a resin that is cured and crosslinked by heating as a main component and does not contain any colored pigments.
Examples include paints whose main component is one or a mixture of two or more of acrylic resins, melamine resins, alkyd resins, urethane resins, polyester resins, and epoxy resins. However, when using epoxy resin, it is used as a mixed system with other resins, and the epoxy resin has a
Usually used at 15% by weight or less. Here, as with the base coat, in most cases it is preferable to use an acrylic resin and a melamine resin. In particular, since it is the surface layer and weather resistance is required, the weight mixing ratio of acrylic resin and melamine resin is
It was around 75:25. Also, the type of paint is
Both the top coat and the base coat may be of any type, such as a solution type paint using an organic solvent as a medium, a non-aqueous dispersion paint, or a multi-part type paint. Although no coloring pigment is added to the top coat, surface conditioners, anti-repellents, extender pigments, etc. can be added as necessary. Hereinafter, the present invention will be explained in more detail with reference to Examples. Parts and percentages refer to parts and percentages by weight.
