Abstract

PURPOSE:To make it possible to wipe off an ink emitting orifice surface by a blade surface always kept clean without requiring a new cleaning mechanism and special sequence, by providing such a constitution that the blade is wiped off by the movement of a carriage before the front surface of a recording head is wiped off by the blade. CONSTITUTION:A blade support plate 12 is mounted to the righthand side of a capping means 7 in a state energized to a retracting direction by a slot 13, a stop pin 14 and a retraction spring 15 and a flexible blade 10 is mounted to the front end part of the blade support plate 12. A projection 20, which is slid with the blade by the movement (the direction shown by an arrow A) of a carriage 4 by utilizing a part of the head holder 19 holding the carriage 4 or a recording head 5 and wipes off the blade 10, is provided to the lateral part of the recording head 5. Therefore, the adhered substance on the surface of the blade 10 is wiped off by the projection 9 by the movement of the carriage 4 to clean the blade 10 and, thereafter, the front surface of the recording head, that is, the surface having ink emitting orifices formed thereto of said head can be wiped off by the blade.
