Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent any positional shift or deformation of electrode units during assembly by using a supporting plate to fix together a modulating electrode, deflecting electrodes and a grid-like support thereby producing each of the electrode units and placing them on a display plate. CONSTITUTION:An electrode unit 5 is assembled by using a supporting plate 16 to unify the combination of a modulating electrode 7 having several electron- beam holes, deflecting electrodes 9 each made by forming semiconductor electrodes on the surfaces of an insulating substrate and a rigid support 12 which is formed by fusing the intersections of bars arranged in a grid-like form. Next, several electrode units 5 are placed on a face plate 20 by using restriction plates 23 and positioning holes 23a. After that, cathodes 8 are stretched over the thus formed structure and then a back electrode 4 and a back plate 3 are attached to the structure, thereby assembling a display device. Due to the above structure where the electrode units 5 are used, it is possible to produce good images by reducing the relative positional shift of each part so as to prevent color shift or a similar phenomenon.

(Problems to be Solved by the Invention) In the conventional configuration shown in FIG.
The method for positioning the grid-like support means 34 is not clear, and even if the grid-like support means 51 is accurately positioned and mounted on the phosphor coated surface 30, the deflection electrode 29 cannot be positioned on the support means 34. The support means 34 moves during fitting, which damages the phosphor and causes image quality problems such as black spots.

On the other hand, in the conventional configuration shown in FIG. 6, the support means 51 restricts the position of the phosphor with position restriction members 53 at both ends, but if the support means 51 bends in the longitudinal arrow Z direction, The support means 51 enters the trajectory of the electron beam, causing image loss.

In addition, a relative positional shift with respect to the electrode group placed on the support means 51 also occurs, and the trajectory of the beam and the shadow mask 52
