Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent a collected toner and the like from the surface an image- bearing body from scattering outward by arranging an elastic cleaning roller in friction contact with said surface in a cleaning device. CONSTITUTION:The elastic cleaning roller 4 arranged in the cleaning device 2 is provided with the magnet sheet 4d around a core metal 4e and both are fixed to the housing or a proper body of the cleaning device 2. A cylinder to be rotated with a drive source is installed apart from the magnet 4d by a small interval, and a silicone sponge layer 4b is formed on the outside of the cylinder 4c and a solid silicone rubber layer 4a is formed on its outside, thus permitting the toner to be prevented from scattering from the cleaning device and an image good in image quality to be obtained without staining the inside of the device and a transfer material.

(Prior art and problems to be solved) A transferable toner image formed on the surface of an image carrier formed in the shape of a rotating cylinder that runs endlessly is transferred to a transfer material and fixed to the transfer material. In a well-known image forming apparatus that repeats this process, it is essential to have a cleaning device that removes residual toner remaining on the surface of the image carrier even after transfer.

As a cleaning means, cleaning blades made of urethane rubber have been widely used, but although cleaning blades have an excellent toner removal function, they can remove toner fused to the surface of the image carrier.
Adhering to the surface of the image carrier due to paper dust, precipitates such as rosin, talc, etc. generated from transfer materials mainly made of paper, or corona products such as nitrides due to the presence of high pressure generating members in the image forming device. It is known that the removal function is insufficient for objects such as objects.

In order to remove such various foreign substances, a roller made of an elastic material such as urethane rubber, silicone rubber, fluororubber, or polyethylene rubber has already been proposed, which is configured to press against or rub against the image carrier. has been done. Such an elastic cleaning roller exhibits an excellent function in removing various kinds of foreign matter as mentioned above, and the foreign matter removed from the image carrier is combined with the removed toner or I.
The toner is collected along with the toner scraped off by the J-ning blade, and is further scraped off by a scraper in contact with the roller surface, and then reaches the toner storage section in the cleaning device.

However, in this type of cleaning roller, the surface of the elastic cleaning roller is relatively flexible, while the scraper is made of a rigid material such as metal or a hard synthetic resin plate, so it is difficult to maintain the scraper in pressure contact with the roller. This is not always easy; if the pressure is too strong, the cleaning roller will wear out quickly, and if it is too weak, the scraping action will be insufficient. Normally, this pressure should not be too strong to prevent damage to the cleaning roller surface.
Toner may leak from between the cleaning roller surface and the scraper, causing the toner to act as a lubricant at the area where it rubs against the image carrier surface. There was a risk of contaminating various parts inside the device.

The present invention has been made to deal with such a situation, and in a cleaning device using an elastic cleaning roller as described above, toner etc. collected from the surface of the image carrier may be scattered to the outside. The object of the present invention is to provide a leaning device that does not require any nuisance.

(Description of Embodiments) FIG. 1 is a sectional side view of the main parts of an example in which the present invention is implemented in a copying machine, in which a cleaning device 2 is disposed close to a photoreceptor 1 rotating in the direction of arrow A. It is set up. Residual toner that remains on the surface of the photoconductor without being transferred to the transfer material at a transfer site (not shown) reaches the cleaning device 2 as the photoconductor l travels, and in the illustrated embodiment, the cleaning roller 4 made of an elastic material The above-mentioned various foreign substances and some toner are removed by the cleaning blade 3, and the toner is mainly removed by the cleaning blade 3. These toner and other foreign substances fall onto the cleaning roller 4, and are conveyed as it rotates in the direction of the arrow. The waste is scraped off by a scraper 5 to reach a storage section in the cleaning device, and is further discharged to the outside by means such as a screw conveyor 6 as necessary.

Needless to say, members necessary for image formation, such as a negative charger, an exposure section, a developer, and a transfer charger, are arranged around the photoreceptor 1, but they are not included in the present invention. Since they are not directly related, explanations about them will be omitted.

As can be clearly seen from the sectional view of FIG. 2, the elastic cleaning roller 4 disposed in the cleaning device 2 has a magnet 4d attached around a core metal 4e, and both of them are attached to the casing of the cleaning device. It shall be fixed to the body or other appropriate place.

A cylinder 4c rotatably driven by a drive source (not shown) is provided around the magnet 4d with a small gap, and a silicon sponge layer 4b is provided on the outer peripheral surface of the cylinder, and a solid layer is further provided on the outer peripheral surface of the cylinder 4c. A silicone rubber layer 4a is then formed.

As an elastic cleaning roller, the magnet has an outer diameter of 10 m,
Using a 6-pole cylinder, a cylinder with an outer diameter of 14 mm has a silicone sponge layer with a thickness of 2 mm and a solid silicone rubber layer with a thickness of 1 m+, and a roller with an outer diameter of 20 mm is used at a circumferential speed of 200 -/@, , surface. A magnet with a magnetic force of 200 Gauss was used.

When we conducted a test to continuously pass 500,000 sheets of A4 size transfer paper under these conditions, there was no toner that was dissipated due to the attraction effect of the magnet, and there was no accumulation of toner in the tray S of the cleaning housing receptacle. There was no staining of the transfer paper due to toner spillage.

As the material for forming the elastic layer of the cleaning roller, urethane rubber, polyethylene, etc. can be used instead of silicone rubber as described above. Also, the number of poles of the magnet is not limited to 6, but can be any number of casseroles as long as it has a toner capture function.
Although it depends on the type of magnetic toner, if the magnetic force on the surface is approximately 150 Gauss or more, the toner collecting function can be sufficiently achieved. It goes without saying that OPC or the like can also be used as the photoconductive layer of the photoreceptor in addition to amorphous silicon.

In addition, because the strong magnet part and the outer rubber part, which rubs against the image carrier and is in contact with the scraper and is made of a relatively flexible material, are separated, the rubber layer may be worn out. Since only the outer part needs to be replaced, this contributes to cost reduction.
