Abstract

PURPOSE:To complete the recording to a recording medium in a required minimum time by detecting a recording error at the same time in recording information to the recording medium. CONSTITUTION:Several tens % of the light irradiated on a recording medium 8 are reflected. The reflected light is collimated into a parallel light by an objective lens 5, the light passes through a 1/4 wavelength plate 4 and its optical path is bent by 90 deg. by a polarized beam splitter 3 and focused onto a photodetector 7 through a focus lens 6. An output of the photodetector 7 enters an envelope fault detecting section 14, where an envelope signal whose envelope exceeds rapidly the usual envelope fluctuation and gets larger abnormally or gets smaller abnormally rapidly is detected. If the reflectance from the medium 8 is changed remarkably due to a damage to the recording medium 8, since the envelope signal fault is detected, it is discriminated that the recording medium recording sector is a recording disable sector, and a control section 11 records the same information stored in a recording element onto a sector next to the bad sector by the same procedure again.

In magneto-optical recording, Tb and Gd are deposited on a glass substrate.
In a recording medium (for example, a disk-shaped medium) in which a ferromagnetic thin film made of an alloy such as F@ is formed and a protective layer is formed on the thin film, the direction of magnetization of the magnetic thin film is set in advance to be the same throughout. A laser beam modulated by a recording information signal is irradiated with a bias magnetic field applied to the recording medium in the opposite direction to the magnetization direction, and a beam spot formed thereby is placed on the medium. By scanning the recording medium along a predetermined path, an information track consisting of a string of information pits due to magnetization reversal corresponding to the recording information signal is formed on the recording medium.

However, in the above-mentioned recording method, if there is damage such as scratches on the recording medium, it is impossible to record on the damaged area, and it is necessary to record on the damaged area. This information will result in a recording error.

Therefore, in conventional magneto-optical recording apparatuses, in order to detect the above-mentioned recording errors, recording is performed on the entire recording medium and then the recorded information on the recording medium is reproduced in its entirety. Then, the signal that caused the recording error is recorded again in another part.

However, in this type of recording error detection, it takes more than twice the original recording time to record all the information signals on the recording medium (or to confirm that all the information signals have been recorded on the recording medium). , extremely inefficient.

The recording information signal is sent from an external device (computer, image reader, etc.) connected to the recording device. The recording information signal is temporarily stored in a semiconductor memory element (RAM) 10. Then, according to a command from the control section 11, the information signal is sent to the signal processing section 12 in units of information. The signal processed in an appropriate form in the processing section 12 is modulated in the modulation section 13 and sent to the laser light source l. The Rade light source 1 is directly modulated by the modulation signal sent from the modulation section 13 and emits a light beam with an intensity corresponding to the information signal. The light beam is collimated by the collimator lens 2 and then sent to the polarizing beam splitter 3. After passing through the 1/4 wavelength plate 4 and being made into circularly polarized light, the light is focused by the objective lens 5 and irradiated onto the recording medium 8 as a minute spot. In this way, information is recorded on the recording medium 8.

Several tens of percent of the light irradiated onto the recording medium 8 is reflected. This reflected light is made into parallel light by the objective lens 5, passes through the 1/4 wavelength plate 4, has its optical path bent by 90 degrees by the polarizing beam sinter 3, and is focused onto the photodetector 7 by the focusing lens 6. It will be done. Since the light incident on the photodetector 7 is reflected light of the Radhe light modulated by the information signal, its intensity is not constant. However, in general, Radhe light modulated by an information signal does not have such a large intensity difference, but is the minimum necessary intensity difference. Therefore, the envelope of the output of the photodetector 7 changes within a narrow range. The output of the photodetector 7 is input to an envelope abnormality detection section 14, which detects an envelope signal that suddenly becomes abnormally large or suddenly abnormally small beyond the above-mentioned normal envelope fluctuation range.

Thus, if the reflectance from the medium 8 has changed significantly due to damage to the recording medium 8, an abnormality in the empa signal will be detected, and the recording area of the recording medium will be unrecordable ( pad sector) and sends a signal to the control unit 11. When the control unit 11 receives a signal input from the abnormality detection unit 14, the same information stored in the storage element 10 (that is, the information attempted to be recorded in the pad sector) is transferred to the next sector of the pad sector. Record according to the procedure.
