Abstract

PURPOSE:To perform an accurate calendering process by using the 1st columnar metallic roll and the 2nd metallic roll which is covered with an elastic material except for an area where a magnetic recording medium passes through and set beside the 1st roll. CONSTITUTION:A metallic roll 2 has a recessed area as its center part since the elastic matters 3 are provided at both ends of the roll 2. A magnetic recording medium is put through said recessed area and rolled with pressure together with a metallic roll 1. Thus a calendering process is carried out to obtain the smooth surface of the magnetic recording medium. Both rolls 1 and 2 get close to each other in a calendering mode and the recording medium is pressed between both rolled to be rolled out. Both elastic materials 3 don't support all pressure of both rolls and support the pressure via the recording medium even though both materials 3 are deformed with mutual approximation between both rolls 1 and 2. This ensures accurate calender processing.
