照〕。(Prior art and its problems) Among optical transmission systems using light intensity modulation, a long-distance transmission system using a wavelength of 1.5 μm, which provides the lowest loss of silica fiber, has been considered. The chromatic dispersion value of the fiber in this wavelength band is normally as large as 15 to 20p3/(kug/n-) per unit length (-) and unit wavelength (n-), and the conventionally used Fabry-Perot laser diode (
When a laser diode (LD) with multi-longitudinal mode oscillation such as FP-LD is used as a light source, long-distance transmission becomes impossible due to mode distribution noise [Okano, Nakayo, Ito, "High-speed optical fiber “Effects of mode distribution noise of semiconductor lasers on transmission” Journal of the Institute of Electronics and Communication Engineers, 1979
/3Vo1. J 62-B Na3 pp199-2
On the other hand, in order to eliminate the influence of this mode distribution noise, a laser diode (DF
B-LD, DBR-LD, C'-LD, etc.) have been developed. Looking at the details of the oscillation spectrum of this single-longitudinal mode LD, the oscillation wavelength changes due to a chirping phenomenon as the light pulse emission time elapses, causing a broadening of the optical spectrum. For this reason, the waveform of an optical pulse propagated in a dispersive medium deteriorates in the receiving section, which becomes a factor that limits the maximum transmission distance [Iwashita, Nakayo, "A Study of High-Speed Modulation Characteristics of Single Spectrum LD", 1982 Please note that this temporal fluctuation of the oscillation wavelength is not a stochastic phenomenon such as the mode partition noise of the FP type LD, but is caused by the current injected into the LD and the relaxation oscillation of the LD. It is a phenomenon determined by numbers [Motosugi, Yoshikuni, Itaya r D
Spectral characteristics during ultra-high speed modulation of FB/laser” 1937

The light intensity is modulated by the D drive circuit 1, and the output light is guided to the optical filter 3. Here, the pass wavelength of the optical filter 3 matches the oscillation wavelength of the laser diode (LD) 2, and its pass band is the same as the light source spectrum width required for the required transmission distance. The LD output light inputted to the optical filter 3 is spectrally shaped (wavelength shaped) and outputted from the terminal B to the transmission line. Also, the DC bias current of the laser diode 2 is
The backlight power of the backlight is monitored, controlled by an automatic light power control system (APC), and supplied from the DC power supply circuit 4.

By passing an optical signal with the spectral characteristics shown in Figure (a) through the optical filter shown in Figure 2 (bl), an optical signal with less spectral broadening as shown in Figure 2 (C1) can be obtained.
The temporal change in the spectrum changes mainly at the rising and falling edges of the pulse, and in the main power part of the pulse the optical spectrum is λ. Since it is located nearby, there is little deterioration in the transmitted waveform even if the wavelength is shaped using an optical filter.
