Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve solidified structure by superposing molding boards for unidirectional solidification forming the base of a steel ingot into two steps and cooling the spacing between the molding boards with water thereby regulating the cooling water and controlling cooling capacity. CONSTITUTION:The molding board is divided to the upper molding board 1 and the lower molding board 2. Channels 3 to serve as a water path are provided atop the lower molding board 2 and a packing 4 for preventing water leakage is embedded to the circumference of the water path. Water cooling is started prior to the start of casting or right after casting and is continued until the steel ingot is drawn. Only the upper molding board 1 is exchanged when the need for exchanging the molding board arises on progression of the damage of the molding board after several times of use.

[Detailed Description of the Invention] [Field of Application of the Invention] The present invention relates to a surface plate for steel ingots for rolling or forging, and more particularly to a surface plate for unidirectionally solidified steel ingots that solidifies in one direction from the bottom to the top of the steel ingot. It is something.

In recent years, steel ingots have been put into practical use in which the short side of the horizontal cross section is larger than the height, and the molten steel in the mold is solidified in one direction from the bottom to the top. This steel ingot has improved defects such as segregation and shrinkage pores in the center, and a clean steel ingot with only amorphous crystals can be obtained. However, in order to promote unidirectional solidification from below, in order to manufacture this steel ingot, it was necessary to use a huge surface plate with a large surface area and large wall thickness. In addition, related to this surface plate is 6 Tetsu to Hagane” VOL69 (1983) All, p67,

During the steel ingot manufacturing process, the surface plate comes into direct contact with molten steel, so the contact surface is particularly susceptible to severe damage, and replacing the entire plate a certain number of times due to damage increases costs. Therefore, if you use a two-tiered surface plate, you only need to replace the upper surface plate, which is in direct contact with the molten steel. However, dividing the surface plate into two creates a heat insulating layer between the surface plates, which reduces the cooling capacity of Vk, and the heat capacity of the upper surface plate is small, leading to the risk of breakage. Therefore, by water-cooling the space between the surface plates, the above problem can be solved, and by adjusting the amount of cooling water, it is possible to control the cooling capacity of the surface plates and further improve the solidification structure of the steel ingot.

A groove 3 serving as a waterway is cut in the upper surface as shown in Fig. 2. Also, a gasket 4 is buried around the waterway to prevent water leakage. If water cooling is started before or immediately after the start of casting and the steel ingot is to be extracted, only the upper surface plate 1 is replaced.

According to the present invention, since the surface plate is water-cooled and divided into two stages, there is no need to increase the wall thickness of the surface plate depending on the height of the steel ingot, and the life of the surface plate can be extended.

In addition, since only the upper surface plate needs to be replaced even when the surface plate reaches the end of its service life, the cost of the surface plate can be significantly reduced, and the cooling capacity of the surface plate can be controlled by adjusting the amount of cooling water, improving the solidification structure of the steel ingot. This has the effect of making it possible to
