Abstract

PURPOSE:To attain an optical scan at a high speed by selecting (n) pieces of elements which are not affected by the dispersion of light and actuating the paired light emitting elements and photoreceptors every (n) paired elements. CONSTITUTION:The infrared ray emitting element trains 3 and 5 and photoreceptor trains 2 and 4 are provided vertically and horizontally respectively at a display part 1. Then an input position indicated by a finger, etc. is detected with cut-off of light on a screen of the part 1. A sequence generating circuit 6 produces a sequence to drive X and Y light emitting elements in a fixed sequence. The control signal of this sequence is sent to a driving circuit 7 for light emitting element. The circuit 7 drives the designated X and Y light emitting elements. A reception data discriminating circuit 8 decides whether or not the light is cut off by a finger, etc. with the output of the photoreceptor in terms of X and Y directions. The drive of the element pairs for optical scan is carried out every (n) element pairs. This omits the malfunction preventing time due to the dispersion of light of the adjacent element pair and therefore attains an optical scan at a high speed. Thus a touched position can be detected in a short time with no malfunction.

Conventionally, the touch input devices in this building scanned sequentially in the same direction, and due to mutual interference such as light diffusion with adjacent elements, there was a delay time until the amount of accumulated light decreased.

The touch input device of the present invention is not affected by light diffusion.
High-speed optical scanning is made possible by selecting the following elements and performing the operation of the light emitting and light receiving element pairs every n element pairs.

Normally, it takes about 200 μs to prevent malfunctions in a pair of light emitting elements (RLED) and light receiving elements due to ambient light. Sequentially scanning 50 sets each on the X and Y axes results in a total of 20
m5 is a typical period. The touch input device according to the present invention scans within a range that is not affected by light diffusion, and requires an operation problem of a sequence circuit to scan every n rows of light emitting and light receiving elements, but prevents malfunctions. This eliminates the need for additional time and enables high-speed optical scanning.

The figure shows one embodiment of the invention. In the figure, numeral 1 is a display section, and rows of infrared light emitting elements 3.
5 and light-receiving element arrays 2 and 4 are installed, and the input position by a finger or the like on the display screen is detected by blocking light. The sequence generation circuit 6 generates a sequence for driving the X and Y light emitting elements in a predetermined order, and this control signal is sent to the light emitting element drive circuit 7, which drives the light emitting elements according to the specified order. The X and Y light emitting elements are driven. The received data determination circuit 8 determines in the X and Y directions whether or not the output of the light receiving element is rarely interrupted by a finger or the like.
