Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent over-polishing of a magnetic head during head cleaning by recording the signal to instruct the cleaning condition of a head to a base film surface on which the binder mixed with an abrasive material and magnetic powder is coated and dried. CONSTITUTION:The binder 2 mixed with the abrasive material and magnetic powder is coated on one surface of the base film 1 consisting of a polyester material and is dried. The signal is recorded on the cleaning tape 3 obtd. in the above-mentioned manner. A rotary magnetic head is polished when the tape 3 is set in VTR and is run. The running of the tape 3 is stopped when the level of the reproduction signal output as a reproduction mode attains an assigned value. The over-polishing of the magnetic head is thus prevented.
