Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent the failure of discharge by eliminating effects caused by toners by providing a groove in parallel with or inclined to discharge space in a spacer on the rear side in relation to the advancing direction of a recording medium. CONSTITUTION:In a multi-needle electrode head 20, a spacer material 4 is coated on the whole surface of an electrode in which a multi-needle electrode 1 and a control electrode 2 are buried, the corresponding portion of the electrode 1 is polished by the polisher of a tool movably provided along the longitudinal direction of the head 20 to form a given width of discharge space 3 over the longitudinal direction of the head 20. A groove 21 in parallel with the space 3 is formed in the spacer behind the moving side of the recording medium 5 on the head 20. In the groove 21, toner staying on the recording medium 5 moving on the front of the head 20 is deposited even after cleaning, preventing the intrusion of toner into the discharge space 3.

This type of multi-needle electrode head 10 has a large number of electrodes corresponding to the number of pixels of a scanning line. It consists of a multi-needle electrode 1 with ears arranged in a row along the vertical direction of the drawing, and control electrodes 2 arranged on both sides (left and right sides of the drawing) with this multi-needle electrode 1 in the middle. A spacer 4 that forms a discharge gap 6 for generating an air discharge under high voltage between a recording medium 5 (for example, a dielectric belt or a drum) advancing on the front side.
is provided so as to cover the two surfaces of the control electrode.

FIG. 4 is a diagram showing an outline of the configuration of a transfer type electrostatic recording device using this multi-needle electrode head 10, in which the outer surface is fully charged by the charger 11 in one direction (in the direction indicated by the arrow in the figure). )
A latent image is formed on the charged portion of the dielectric belt 12 which rotates by the multi-needle electrode head 10 to which a signal voltage is applied. This latent image is visualized by a developer 13 and transferred onto a transfer medium 15 by a transfer corotron 14. On the other hand, the dielectric belt 12 on which the image has been transferred is subjected to the next process after residual developer (toner) is removed from its surface by a cleaner 16.

However, since it is difficult for the cleaner 16 to completely remove residual toner, repeated use of the device causes toner to accumulate in the gaps 3 provided in the multi-needle electrode head 10, causing discharge defects and deteriorating print quality. It was done.

[Means and effects for solving the problem] The above object of the present invention is to provide a multi-needle electrode consisting of a row of pin electrodes and a control electrode arranged on both sides of the multi-needle electrode, and to cover both of the electrodes. In the multi-needle electrode head, a discharge gap is formed at a position corresponding to the multi-needle electrode of the spacer provided in 5, and an electrostatic latent image is formed on a recording medium moving on the front surface of the electrode by discharge between the two electrodes. This is achieved by a multi-needle electrode head in which a groove parallel to or inclined to the discharge gap is provided in the spacer on the rear side with respect to the traveling direction of the recording medium.

Note that the process of forming this discharge gap can be performed, for example, by the method of forming a spacer for maintaining a gap in a multi-needle electrode (Japanese Unexamined Patent Publication No. 58-59861), which has already been proposed by the present applicant. A multi-needle electrode head is also formed based on this method.

The multi-needle electrode spatula F20 shown in FIG. 1 moves along the longitudinal direction of the multi-needle electrode head 20 after the spacer material 4 is entirely coated on the electrode surface in which the multi-needle electrode 1 and the control electrode 2 are embedded. A portion corresponding to the multi-needle electrode 1 is polished by a polishing means (not shown) of a jig provided at , and a discharge gap 6 of a predetermined width is formed over the entire longitudinal direction of the multi-needle electrode head.

By forming grooves 21 on the front side of the discharge gap 3 for the moving recording medium 5 using these tilting methods, cleaning on the recording medium 5 that moves the front surface of the head into the grooves 21. The toner still remaining on the recording medium is subsequently deposited and prevents toner from entering the discharge gap 6. Therefore, even if the device is used over time, discharge defects due to residual toner will not occur.

Next, FIG. 2 illustrates another embodiment of the present invention,
A groove Hat corresponding to the groove shown in the embodiment shown in FIG. 1 is provided at an angle with respect to the discharge gap 6. By forming the inclined groove 21a in this manner, the accumulated toner is swept away in one direction, so that the groove 21a does not become full of accumulated toner, and the function of the groove 21a is always able to function without being impaired. As described above, according to the multi-needle electrode head for electrostatic recording of the present invention, grooves are provided on the head surface to deposit toner that remains on the recording medium and enters the recording medium after cleaning. This method has one advantageous effect: it prevents toner from accumulating in the discharge gap, and therefore guarantees stable printing quality at all times without causing discharge defects.
