Abstract

PURPOSE:To enable a virtual double-density printing at a double speed through using a head having the conventional response frequency by trimming the subsequent dot when two dots are turned ON continuously in the horizontal way. CONSTITUTION:A data is fed to a print buffer 2 from a host computer 1 and a printing starts when the buffer fills to the capacity. The data at the address as specified is taken out by a print buffer addressing means 21, the immediately preceding data stored in a memory section 25 is inverted by an inversion means 23 and ORing is done between this data and the data pertaining to the current printing by a ORing execution means 22. Then, the results are stored into the memory section 25 and a printing is performed by a printing means 24. A printing position deciding means 27 is provided to decide on the printing position. When the printing position is determined to be the head of one line, the memory section is zero cleared by a memory section clearing means 26 before the invertion of the contents of the memory section 25. With such an arrangement, a virtual double-density printing can be done at the speed doubling that of the conventional double-density printing without varying the response frequency of the head.

<Prior Art> Conventional dot printers store data to be printed in a print buffer as shown in the 8th [Δ] and send the data directly to the head for printing. However, there is a limit to the response frequency of the head, and changing this limit value is technically extremely difficult and requires a large amount of cost. The moving speed of the head was half that of single-density printing.

Therefore, double-density printing takes twice as long as single-density printing, which is a major inconvenience when using the printer. FIGS. 6 and 7 are examples of single-density printing and double-density printing produced by conventional dot printers.

Features> The present invention thins out (that is, turns off) the later dots when two consecutive dots are turned on at 41"I"i, while using a conventional head with a frequency band. It also has the feature of being able to perform pseudo-double density printing at double speed.

FIG. 2 is a block diagram illustrating the configuration of the present invention in further detail. Data indicating graphic/character pattern information is sent from the host computer 1 to the print buffer 2, and when this buffer becomes full, printing begins. First, data at an address designated by the print buffer address designating means 21 of the print buffer 2 is retrieved. Next, storage section 2
The immediately preceding data stored in 5 is inverted by the inverting means 23, and the logical product execution means 22 performs an AND of the result and the data to be printed this time. Next, this result is stored in the storage section 25 and further printed by the printing means 24. Further, the print position determining means 27 is for determining the print position, and when it is determined that the print position is at the beginning of a line, the memory clearing means 26 clears the memory before inverting the contents of the memory 25. Clear to 0.

Next, the present invention will be explained in detail according to the flowchart shown in FIG. First, data indicating graphic and character pattern information sent from the host computer is stored in the print buffer. (■) When the print buffer becomes full, the next address specified by the print buffer address designation means is set as the top address of the print buffer. (■) Next, the print position determining means 27 determines the position to be printed, (■) If it is the beginning of the line, the memory clearing means 26 clears the memory to 0 (■), and then the reversing means 23 The contents of the storage section are inverted. (■ If it is not the beginning of the line,
The process described in ■ directly follows. After the inversion, the inverted data and the data designated by the print buffer address designation means are ANDed by the AND execution means 22 (■), and the result is then stored in the storage section 25. (■)
Thereafter, the address indicated by the i'itf print buffer address specifying means is incremented by 1 (■), and the data stored in the storage section 25 is transferred to the printing means 24.
printed by. (■) After that, it is determined whether there is data in the print buffer (φ), and if there is data, the process returns to the process of (■) and the processes of (2) to (2) are repeated. If there is no data in the print buffer, check whether there is any print data (that is, data that has not yet been sent to the print buffer but should be printed).0), and if there is data, return to ■~ Repeat [phase] and end the process if there is no data.

<Effects> As described above, in the present invention, if the dot was turned on immediately before, the dot is always turned off next time (that is, the response frequency of the dot head is not changed to thin out the dots, which is much more convenient than the conventional method). This has the effect that pseudo double-density printing can be performed at the same speed as single-density printing (that is, twice the speed of conventional double-density printing).

Further, when the present invention is used, if the moving speed of the head is halved, pseudo quadruple density printing as shown in FIG. 5 becomes possible.
