In this figure, 1 is a thyristor rectifier, 2 is a smoothing reactor, 3 is a thyristor inverter, 4 is a step-up transformer, 5 is an ozonizer (discharge tube), 6 is a firing angle regulator, 7 is a power supply regulator, and 9 is a current Detector, 9 is a pulse distributor (flip-flop),
10 is a voltage/frequency converter. The inverter 3 receives the DC input current smoothed by the smoothing reactor 2, converts it into an AC rectangular wave current, and supplies it to the discharge tube 5. Individual thyristors T, ~T within inverter 3. Since the commutation operation in between is performed using the voltage of the equivalent capacitance formed by the discharge tube itself, no special commutation capacitor is required. The current regulator 7 controls the thyristor rectifier 1 via the starting angle regulator 6 in such a way that the current actual value I detected by the current detector 8 corresponds to the current setpoint value I. Further, the inverter output frequency is commanded by the input voltage Vp of the voltage/frequency converter 10 provided in front of the flip-flop 9. Conventional control methods are to keep the frequency command value VF (and therefore the inverter frequency) constant and make the inverter DC input current variable, or to keep the inverter DC input current constant and make the inverter frequency variable. Therefore, the voltage applied to the discharge tube, which is equivalently regarded as a capacitor, does not necessarily reach the maximum effective voltage.

However, its maximum value is limited by thermal factors that take into account the cooling of the discharge tube. A disadvantage of conventional control methods is therefore that the maximum permissible voltage value is not fully utilized or there is a risk that the maximum permissible voltage value is exceeded. The present invention aims to eliminate the above-mentioned drawbacks, maximize the capacity of the discharge tube, increase the amount of ozone generated, and ensure operational safety.

However, there are significant differences in the control of the inverter 3. In other words, the input pulse to the pulse distributor (flip-flop) 9 is guided from the comparator 11. Furthermore, a voltage proportional to the absolute value of the instantaneous voltage value of the discharge tube 5 is extracted via an instrument transformer 12 and a diode bridge 13 connected to the primary side of the transformer 4 . This extracted voltage is led to the comparator 11 together with the reference voltage from the reference generator 14 and compared there. As shown in FIG. 3, the discharge tube 5 can be simply regarded as equivalent to a series circuit of two capacitances Cg and ca.

Ca is the capacitance of the void, usually Cg〉〉
It is related to Ca. Therefore, if a rectangular wave current is supplied to the discharge tube, the discharge tube voltage will basically have a triangular waveform.
According to the present invention, for example, when the discharge tube voltage increases due to the positive half-wave current flowing through the thyristors Tl and T4 and reaches the maximum positive value +Ep, the comparator 11 is activated and the operating state of the flip-flop 9 is Invert. As a result, thyristors T2 and T3 are turned on in the inverter 3, and thyristors T1 and T4 are turned off. The current supplied via the thyristors T2 and T3 now becomes a negative half-wave current, and the discharge tube voltage moves from +Ep to the negative polarity direction. When the discharge tube voltage reaches the maximum negative limit p, the comparator 11 is activated and generates a pulse to invert the flip-flop 9, thereby switching the output current of the inverter to the positive half-wave polarity. In this case, the maximum positive and negative limit value 1
Ep is determined by the reference value provided from the reference value generator 14. Therefore, according to the control method according to the present invention, the instantaneous value of the discharge tube voltage is detected, and the polarity of the inverter output current is switched every time the value reaches a predetermined maximum limit value. Operation safety can be ensured without going out of range, and the full potential of the discharge tube can be utilized. Furthermore, the amount of ozone generated can be adjusted by controlling the DC input current of the inverter.
In this case, the inverter output frequency changes depending on the inverter DC input current.
