For example, pads of pulverized wood pulp have low strength when wet and are susceptible to tearing or balling when in contact with liquids. If a special sheet called a waxing sheet is not used, the plastic sheets will move and break apart. Typically, adhesive must be applied to one entire side of the pad to hold it in place, but this results in reduced absorbency, requiring large amounts of adhesive, and requiring increased layers of absorbent material. No. The capillary absorption action of the pad is reduced and the stretching action of the backing sheet is also prevented. The need for additional layers increases the bulk of the product, makes it less snug in use, and liquid permeability decreases with each additional layer required. This is especially serious when using a waxing sheet. Wadding sheets not only reduce liquid permeability, but also significantly increase the cost of the diaper. Also, there is no way to prevent backflow of liquid, resulting in excessive urine contact with the skin. As described above, there is a great demand for absorbent articles that have good usability, simple structure, and solve the above-mentioned drawbacks of currently available absorbent articles.

That is, since the front sheet and the back sheet are fixed to each other through the through-holes of the absorbent pad, the absorbent pad is positioned by the fixed portions of both sheets and can be reliably held between the two sheets. Since this positioning and holding does not require a special wading-type holding sheet that defines the surface of the absorbent pad, the effect that the liquid permeability does not decrease is obtained. Further, since no adhesive is required to position and hold the absorbent pad, the surface area of the absorbent pad is not reduced by the adhesive. Therefore,
The effect is that the liquid absorption rate of the absorbent pad is not reduced. Further, the inner surfaces of the two sheets fixed to each other in the through hole and the through hole. Since an annular space is formed in the through hole by the circumferential surface of the hole, the absorbent pad can be displaced relative to both sheets within the size of this annular space. Therefore, even when the absorbent article of the present invention is curved, no unreasonable stress is generated, so that the absorbent article of the present invention can be easily adapted to the shape of the user's body. Next, since a plurality of through holes are formed in the absorbent pad, the surface exhibiting capillary action is increased by the area of the peripheral surface of these through holes.

Moreover, since the aforementioned annular space is defined on the circumferential surface of these through holes, and the liquid to be absorbed directly flows into the annular space from the small holes in the front sheet, the entire circumferential surface of the through holes exhibits a capillary phenomenon. It functions as a surface at the same time. Therefore, in combination with the fact that no special waxing sheet or adhesive is used to position and hold the absorbent pad, the absorbent pad can absorb the absorbed liquid extremely quickly. Get the effect of being able to do something. In addition, since the front sheet has many small holes, the liquid to be absorbed is effectively dispersed, reducing the time required for absorption by the absorbent pad. Since the diameter is smaller than the through-holes of the absorbent pad, the liquid absorbed by the absorbent pad has the effect of being difficult to flow back through these small holes.

Furthermore, since the large number of small holes formed in the front sheet are not formed at the periphery of the front sheet, the periphery of the edge of the absorbent pad that exhibits capillary action has a function similar to the annular space described above. Therefore, the absorbed liquid dispersed by the inner surface of the back sheet is also absorbed from the edges of the absorbent pad, resulting in the effect that the absorption efficiency of the absorbent pad can be further improved. Furthermore, since the annular space within the through-hole of the absorbent pad also functions to guide the liquid to the back surface of the absorbent pad, the effect is that the liquid is efficiently absorbed into the absorbent pad from the entire surface. obtain.

Since the front sheet and the back sheet are fixed within the through holes of the absorbent pad, a plurality of recesses are formed on the surface of the front sheet. These recesses form air pockets that do not come into contact with the skin, and only the raised parts other than the recesses come into contact with the skin, which promotes ventilation between the absorbent article and the skin, and also allows the front sheet to This has the effect of minimizing sticking to the skin. In addition, if an inner sheet is further provided on the front sheet, even if the inner sheet is not fixed to the front sheet through the recess,
Since the contact pressure between the skin and the absorbent article is distributed almost over the entire inner sheet, the contact pressure is reduced and the clinging to the skin can be reduced. In addition, since a space exists between the inner sheet and the front sheet in the recessed portion, an effect of promoting ventilation can also be obtained. Embodiments of the present invention will be described below with reference to the drawings.

Referring to FIG. 1, an absorbent article 1 (for example, a disposable diaper) is made up of a back sheet 2, an inner sheet 3 (optional), a front sheet 5, and an absorbent pad 4 sandwiched between the back sheet and the front sheet. Become. Each of the above-mentioned sheets is illustrated as having a generally rectangular shape for illustrative purposes, and each sheet has a pair of side edges 6, 7.
and a pair of edges connecting the side edges, and the edges of each sheet are generally aligned. However, other shapes can be used for the sheet, such as squares, triangles, polygons, arcs, or combinations thereof, depending on the application and preference. The back sheet 2 is fluid-impermeable and its material is typically a thermoplastic or thermoset plastic, such as polyolefin (polyethylene, polypropylene), polystyrene, polyvinyl plastic (e.g. polyvinyl chloride), etc. . Mixed polymers, laminates, copolymers, and triple polymers can also be used. This sheet can be made by continuous extrusion, molding or other operations, and is preferably a homogeneous sheet. The sheet may be woven, nonwoven, or felt, provided the required fluid impermeability is achieved. The thickness of the sheet may vary, but is typically 0.0025 to 0.08 Tf0n(a). 1-3
.. 0 mil) range, and 0.025 for diapers. (
For applications such as surgical pads or drapes, relatively thick sheets are used. The front sheet 5 is preferably made of a fluid-impermeable material and is of the same material and thickness as the back sheet 2. The front sheet 5 has a large number of small holes 22 for allowing fluid to pass therethrough. The inner sheet 3 is also fluid permeable. The sheets, particularly the back and front sheets, may be colored differently for manufacturing identification, use identification, commercial appeal, and aesthetic reasons. For example, the back sheet is white, the front sheet is blue, and the translucent inner sheet is placed on top of the blue front layer sheet. In this way, the front surface and back surface of the absorbent article can be identified at the time of manufacture or use. Other colors, patterns and designs may be used. The absorbent pad may be any suitable absorbent material, such as crushed wood bulbs, cellulose wadding, or any woven, non-woven or felted material, natural or synthetic.
It may be a fibrous or non-fibrous (eg open or closed cell sponge or foam) material.

As best shown in FIGS. 1 and 2, when the absorbent pad is rectangular, it has a peripheral edge consisting of end edges 10, 11 and side edges 12, 13. These edges are spaced inwardly from the outer edges 6, 7, 8 and 9 of the absorbent article as shown. As previously mentioned, absorbent pads can take on a variety of geometries. One form of diaper is shown in Figures 1 and 3.
As shown in the figures, arcuate sections 14, 15 are cut out from the side edges 12, 13 at the foot locations. As best shown in Figure 3, this prevents too much bulk in the infant's thighs, provides a better fit, and allows the area to be cut out in the uncut back sheet, front sheet, and inner sheet. The sheet (optional) allows the liquid to collect and disperse without leaking to the outside. The absorbent pad 4 also has a number of relatively large through holes 16 spaced inwardly from its edges 10, 11, 12, 13.

This hole allows the front sheet 5 (and inner sheet 3, if present) to be glued directly to the back sheet 2 in area 17 in a manner best shown in the upper half of FIG.
Adhesion can be by any suitable means, such as heat sealing (preferred)
, solvent seal, adhesive, etc. The adhesive area occupies only a portion of the area defined by the dimensions of the hole 16. The adhesive effectively holds the absorbent pad in the correct position between the back sheet 2 and the front sheet 5 without applying adhesive to the absorbent pad, creating a quilting effect. It will not shift its position inside, and it will not come into contact with the liquid and become a dumpling.
The lower part shows another embodiment in which the inner sheet is not bonded to the front and back sheets in area 17. Additionally, this configuration eliminates the typical single or multilayer filler sheets, absorbent pad packaging or sachets, thereby increasing the liquid permeation rate and reducing the consumer price of the diaper.

The pores of the bud have edges 18 which increase the capillary surface for the bud to quickly absorb liquid. Absorption by exposed fiber ends, such as those exhibited by edge 18, generally occurs on the pad inner surface 19.

Since no adhesive is used to hold the pad in place, liquid distribution is better. An annular space 21 is defined within the hole 16 between the front sheet 5 and the back sheet 2 (FIG. 2). This annular space is the small hole 2 of the front sheet 5.
Serves as a reservoir for rapid penetration of 2. Therefore,
The permeation rate limiting factor is not the absolute absorption rate through the pad surface 19 but the rate of movement through the small holes 22 in the front sheet. The liquid therefore waits for relatively slow absorption from the pad surface without wetting the inner surface 23 of the top sheet 5. Rather, the liquid quickly reaches the reservoir 21 through the small hole 22 where it is absorbed by capillary action from the rim 18. Contact of urine with the skin is thus prevented to a minimum. The small holes 22 in the front sheet are smaller and more numerous than the holes 16 in the absorbent pad.

For example, the hole 16 in the pad is 1.9 cm (3/4 inch) in diameter, and the small hole 22 in the front sheet is 0.3 cm in diameter.
(1/8 inch). This provides multiple inlets for fluid to flow into the pad 4 or reservoir 21, providing a flow gradient effect that prevents fluid from flowing back onto the surface 23 and coming into contact with the skin. Furthermore, since the number of small holes 22 is large, alignment with the holes 16 and the annular space 21 is statistically guaranteed. The area where the small hole 22 is located (both vertically and horizontally in FIG.
leakage or backflow from edges 10, 11, 12 and 13 (excluding edges 10, 11, 12 and 13) is prevented. In this manner, the front sheet 5 and back sheet 2 of fluid-impermeable material form a seal that prevents leakage from the side and edge edges of the diaper. Although the inner sheet 3 may be omitted, it is preferable because it prevents the skin from coming into contact with the plastic front sheet 5 and provides a smooth feel.

Preferably, the inner sheet is a woven or non-woven, fibrous, natural (eg cellulose) or synthetic material. It may be a felted or randomly intertwined nonwoven material from a papermaking process to form a self-supporting sheet. This inner sheet also aids in liquid transfer to the top sheet and skin protection. Like Bad 4, the inner sheet also contains drugs, chemicals, deodorants, emollients, powders (
For example, treat with baby powder), surfactants, humidifiers, ointments, fragrances, disinfectants, etc. as necessary. FIG. 3 shows the pad of FIG. 1 folded into a conventional box pleat configuration having adhesive coated securing tabs 24, 24'' covered with release sheets 25, 25''.

When the diaper is applied to the infant, the tape strips are held in place and the backing sheet is pulled somewhat taut, causing the recesses and undulations on the surface of the diaper to contour. To this end, the diaper presents a discontinuous surface surface in which the raised portions contact the infant's skin and the recesses create air pockets that promote the circulation of air within the diaper. Therefore, the area of the wet surface that comes into contact with the infant is minimized. Also, since the front surface is discontinuous, the front sheet or the inner sheet is prevented from sticking to the infant's skin to a minimum.
