Abstract

PURPOSE:To contrive prevention of transfer of a sublimable dye onto a recording paper and prevention of ground contamination of the recording paper, by a method wherein an intermediate layer in which a diffusion constant of a sublimable dye is lower than that in a base film is provided between the base film and the recording layer. CONSTITUTION:A solution obtained by mixing a sublimable dye (the diffusion coefficient of which in the intermediate layer is lower than that in a base film 11), an adhesive and a solvent is applied to the base film 11 by a wire bar, and is dried to provide the intermediate layer. Again, a solution containing a sublimable dye is applied to the layer 12 by a wire bar, and is dried to provide the recording layer 13, thereby obtaining a sublimation sheet 1. The sublimation sheet and a recording paper are laminated on each other, and recording is conducted by a thermal head. Measurement of recorded density shows that a high recorded density can be obtained, since the sublimable dye is prevented from diffusing into the base film.

Recently, there has been an increasing demand for color recording, and thermal transfer recording methods have been actively developed as a method to meet this demand. One of the thermal transfer recording methods is a method using sublimable dye.

This is a method in which a sublimable dye is heated and sublimated using a heat source such as a thermal head, and then adsorbed onto recording paper to obtain a record. By controlling the amount of heat applied externally, the recording density can be changed. Therefore, intermediate tones can be easily expressed. For this reason, it has recently attracted particular attention because it is possible to perform full-color recording similar to photography by using the three colors yellow, magenta, and cyan.

The conventional sublimation sheet used in the above thermal transfer recording method has a structure in which a recording layer containing a sublimable dye is laminated on a base film. There are no particular restrictions on the base film as long as it has good heat resistance and is thin. Polyester film and capacitor paper are usually used due to cost.
Polyester films are used when particularly high strength is required. The recording layer mainly consists of sublimable dye and adhesive. The main type of dye used as sublimable dyes is called disperse dye.

Monoazo, disazo, and anthraquinone dyes are often used. These dyes are used for dyeing hydrophobic resins. Any adhesive can be used as long as it can form a dye-containing film, and polyvinyl acetate, polyvinyl chloride, epoxy resin, polyurethane resin, etc. can be used.

To record on recording paper, the polymer coated side of the recording paper and the recording layer are stacked facing each other, and the base film surface is heated with a thermal head to sublimate the sublimable dye and transfer it to the recording paper. carried out by Since recording is performed by heating the base film side in this way, depending on the combination of the base film and the sublimable dye, the sublimable dye may also diffuse to the base film side. For example, the red dye PSD-20 (manufactured by Sumitomo Chemical), which is an anthraquinone dye, is used. and,
During recording, the sublimable dye migrates to the recording paper and also diffuses into the polyester film that is the base film. Therefore, the sublimable dye contained in the V2 layer is required to be approximately twice as much as the dye required for recording. Therefore, if the ratio of the sublimable dye to the adhesive in the recording layer is constant, the thickness of the recording layer will need to be approximately twice as thick, and the recording sensitivity will decrease, and if the ratio of the sublimable dye to the adhesive is increased, However, there is a disadvantage that the sublimable dye in the recording layer is easily transferred to the recording paper due to pressure, and the recording paper is likely to be smudged. [Structure of the Invention] The present invention provides an intermediate layer between the base film and the recording layer in which the diffusion coefficient of the sublimable dye is smaller than that of the base film. It is a sublimation sheet.

36 (manufactured by Nippon Kayaku), 5 parts by weight of polyvinyl butyral resin gold as an adhesive, and 100 parts by weight of methylene chloride as a solvent were weighed and mixed. Next, to create the intermediate layer 12, 710 parts by weight of hydroxyethyl cellulose, which has a small diffusion coefficient for sublimable dyes, is dissolved in 100 parts by weight of water, and the hydroxyethyl cellulose solution is spread to a thickness of 10 μm using a wafer. The intermediate layer 1 is coated on a polyester film with a thickness of approximately 1 μm and dried.
2 was formed. On this intermediate layer 12, a solution containing the above-mentioned sublimable dye is similarly applied using Wire No. (-), and then dried to form a recording layer 13 with a thickness of about 2 mm, thereby creating a sublimation sheet 1. For comparison, a sublimation sheet was prepared in which only a 2 μm thick recording layer was formed on a 10 μm thick polyester film. In addition, recording paper in which a polyester film was formed on plain paper was prepared as a recording paper. Next, each of the above-mentioned sublimation sheets and sc! When the density was measured in the area, a recording density (OD) of about 1.2 was obtained with the sublimation sheet of the present invention provided with an intermediate layer, but a recording density (OD) of only about 0.9 was obtained with the sublimation sheet without an intermediate layer. Furthermore, in order to obtain a recording density of about 1.2 with a sublimation sheet without an intermediate layer, the thickness of the recording layer needs to be about 1.5 times, and a larger recording power is required.

As explained above, since the thermal transfer sheet of the present invention provided with an intermediate layer can have a thin recording layer, the cost of the sheet is low and the recording sensitivity is high.
