Abstract

PURPOSE:To protect the surface of a substrate from contamination, by patterning sealing members to be installed to the fringe of a liquid crystal element between substrate on the substrate by means of a dispenser movable in both x- and y-directions. CONSTITUTION:Patterning of sealing members 2 is performed on one substrate 1 of a liquid crystal element by means of a dispenser 3. This dispenser 3 is filled with the material of the sealing member 2 and driven in box x- and y-directions by the control of a microcomputer. The dispenser 3 is supported by an arm 4 in such a way that the dispenser 3 can move in the x-direction and the arm 4 is supported by frame bodies so that the arm 4 can move in the y-direction. It is possible to provide numerous dispenses so that patterning of the sealing member 2 can be performed simultaneously on numerous substrates. It is also possible to supply the sealing material to the dispenser 3 from a tube by externally charging system instead of filling the dispenser 3 with the material. Moreover, patterning of a conductive transferring material for having electric conductivity between the top and bottom substrates with the dispenser can also be made.

【発明の詳細な説明】 く技術分野〉 本発明は液晶表示素子の基板間周縁に設けるシール材の
パターンニングについての改良を施こした製造方法に関
する。

〈従来技術〉 従来、液晶表示素子の基板間周縁にシール材をパターン
ニングする場合スクリーン印刷を行なうのが一般的であ
った。しかしスクリーン印刷にてシール利をパターンニ
ングする場合スクリーンと基板との接触を避ける事が不
可能である為に基板上にスクリーンによるメツシュ跡が
残ったり、基板がスクリーンによって汚染されたりしだ
。一般にシール材のパターンニングは基板上への透明電
極及び配向処理膜の形成後に行なわれるものであるので
、上記した如きスクリーン印刷におけるメソシュ跡の残
存及び汚染は問題であった。

すことを目的とする。

を示す構成説明図である。図で1は液晶表示素子の一方
の基板であり、2はパターンニングされノζシール材、
3はシール月2のパターンニングを行なうディスペンサ
ーである。該ディスペンサー3はシール材2の材料が内
部に充填されマイコン制御によってx + y方向に駆
動される。4は上記ディスペンサー3をX方向に可動な
様に支持する腕であり、5は該腕4をX方向に可動な様
に支持する枠体である。

たがディスペンサーを多数個同時に駆動して多数の基板
に対して同時にシール材2のパターンニングを行なう様
にしても構わない。又シール材2をディスペンサ−3内
部に充填せずに外部充填方式によってチーブによりディ
スベンザ−3に補充しても構わない。又、上記ディスペ
ンサー3によって上下基板間の電気的導通を目的とした
導電性転移材のパターンニングを行なっても構わない。
