Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain an inexpensive optical connector which is assembled easily and treated in a short time by employing caulking structure for the connection between and holding of a ferrule and the core of an optical fiber cord and the holding and fixation of the ferrule and optical fiber cord. CONSTITUTION:The fiber cord 3 having a terminal worked to specific size previously is inserted into the ferrule 1 and its core 5 is fixed by being caulked at 1-2 points of the part A of a core crimping part. Thus, the fiber core 5 and fiber element wire 6 are fixed in the ferrule 1 by the caulking work. Similarly, the ferrule 1 and a pipe 2, and the fiber cord 3 and pipe 2 are fixed by caulking at parts B and C. A tension member 4, on the other hand, is fixed to the ferrule 1 with the caulked part of the part B. Further, the fiber element wire 6 and ferrule 1 are fixed with a rapid cure adhesive at the part D atop the ferrule 1. Thus, the inexpensive optical connector is assembled easily and treated in a short time.

In general, when assembling an optical connector and a fiber cord, various adhesives are used to fix the fiber and the ferrule, which are their constituent parts. On the other hand, as the development and practical application of optical transmission systems progresses, there is a demand for optical connectors that are inexpensive and can be assembled in a short time.

Therefore, studies are being conducted to simplify the structure of the connector and shorten the adhesive curing time during assembly. Furthermore, in assembling the optical connector and the fiber cord, it is necessary to securely fix the ferrule and the fiber cord strand, and the ferrule and the fiber cord outer sheath.

In the conventional ferrule and fiber-to-fiber CD fixing method using an adhesive, the fiber cord wire is coated with a silicone resin that prevents adhesion, so it is necessary to remove this silicone resin before bonding. On the other hand, during bonding work, the trap requires a long curing time because the adhesive sticks, and it has the disadvantage that it cannot be used even if it is necessary to perform processing in a short time during on-site construction. Furthermore, there is a drawback that problems are likely to occur due to a decrease in adhesive strength due to variations in work in the bonding work. Furthermore, peeling off the silicone resin and using silkworm cloth for the adhesive required considerable skill and were labor-intensive operations.

The drawing is a longitudinal sectional view of a simple connector according to an embodiment of the present invention. The optical fiber cord 3 has a core wire 5 in its center, a tension member (reinforcing member) 4 is arranged around the core, and the outside thereof is covered with an outer sheath. A fiber wire 6 passes through the center of the core wire. A small diameter hole is formed in the ferrule 1 into which the strand 6 of the optical fiber cord can be inserted, and a core crimping part is formed at one end 111j into which the core wire 5 can be inserted and fixed by caulking. A caulking portion for holding and caulking the tension member is provided on the outer side. As will be described later, a pipe 2 is similarly fixed to the outer periphery of the connecting portion between the ferrule L and the cord 3 by caulking.
