Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a uniform display quality, also to make a dispersion process unnecessary, and also to hold exactly a spacer by constituting the titled element so that the spacer for holding uniformly an interval of a transparent electrode is formed as one body in a uniformly dispersed state in one of the substrates concerned. CONSTITUTION:A substrate 11 is provided with, for instance, a columnar spacer 11a formed as one body in a uniformly dispersed state. That which has provided a transparent electrode 2 and an orienting agent 3 on the tip of the spacer 11a, and that which has provided only the orienting agent 3 on the tip of the spacer 11a exist, and also a shape of the spacer can also be deformed. An interval of the transparent electrode 2 is always held uniformly, therefore, a stable and even display is obtained, also no failure is generated, and also a dispersion process of the spacer becomes unnecessary.

As a conventional liquid crystal display element, one having the structure shown in FIG. 1, for example, is known. That is, in FIG. 1, l is a substrate made of two glass plates facing each other, a plastic thin film, etc., and 2 is a substrate made of indium tin oxide (ITO) etc. provided on the inner surface of the substrate l. A transparent electrode made of a conductive material; 3 an alignment treatment agent treated on the transparent electrode 2 to control alignment; 4 alumina dispersed in order to maintain uniform spacing between the transparent electrodes 2;

A spacer made of plastic beads, glass fiber, etc.; 5, a liquid crystal sealed between the transparent electrodes 2 by a seal 6; 7, a polarizing plate disposed outside the substrate 1; In a liquid crystal display element with such a configuration, it is difficult to uniformly disperse the spacers 4, and the spacers are dispersed unevenly, which may result in uneven display. This reduces production efficiency and causes defects, and in the case of flexible liquid crystal cells that use plastic thin film substrates, the spacer may move internally. .

This purpose was achieved by using a liquid crystal display element composed of a plastic substrate, in which spacers for maintaining uniform spacing between transparent electrodes are integrally molded on one side of the substrate in a uniformly dispersed state. This problem can be solved by a liquid crystal display element.

Since the embodiment of the present invention is constructed as described above, its operation is performed in exactly the same manner as the conventional liquid crystal display element shown in FIG. 1, and the spacers 11a are uniformly distributed in advance. It is integrally molded on one side 11 of the substrate in a state of being held.

As shown in Fig. 4, the alignment treatment agent 3 is attached to the tip of the spacer 11a.
There is also a spacer with a 5th spacer shape.
Modifications such as a hemispherical shape as shown in the figure or a cylinder with a rounded tip as shown in FIG. 6 are possible.

As described above, according to the present invention, since the spacers are uniformly distributed in advance and integrally molded on one side of the substrate, the interval between the transparent electrodes is always maintained uniformly, so stable unevenness can be achieved. This eliminates the need for a spacer dispersion process, which eliminates a decrease in production efficiency and reduces costs.Furthermore, spacers can be moved even in the case of flexible liquid crystal cells. Furthermore, the present invention can be applied to all types of liquid crystal display elements such as TN type and GH type.
