Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent a lowering of a seal effect by lubricating one side of a gasket formed of an elastic metal plate at least so that even if excessive force due to thermal distortion or binding works upon the gasket, the gasket causes sliding to let the force escape without biting into the joint surfaces. CONSTITUTION:An antifriction layer 10 formed of molybdenum disulfide, graphite or the like is formed on one contact surface 8 of a gasket 2 to slide the gasket smoothly. When the gasket 2 is interposed between the respective joint surfaces 16, 18 of a cylinder head 12 and a cylinder block 14 and fastened by a bolt or the like, the top 20 and both base portions 22 of a bead 4 are pressed by joint surfaces 16, 18 to accomplish a sealing effect. Both base portions 22 are slided and expanded in direction of arrows (a) by the antifriction layer 10 to let the force applied upon the gasket escape, and furthermore, after expanding, the gasket functions as a seal at that position.

[Technical Background of the Invention] A metal gasket has been proposed as a sealing means between joint surfaces of members to be joined, for example, between a cylinder head and a cylinder block. A metal gasket has a bead formed on an elastic metal plate, and the bead is pressed against the joint surface with an appropriate pressing force to achieve a seal.

[Problems with Background Art] By the way, if the members to be joined are deformed due to thermal distortion, tightening, etc., there is a risk that excessive force will act on the gasket. For example, in an internal combustion engine having a cylinder head made of aluminum and a cylinder block made of cast iron, the thermal expansion coefficient of the aluminum material is larger than that of cast iron, so the engine is thermally strained and deformed during operation. Due to this deformation, the increased gap between the joint surfaces can be absorbed by the elastic restoring force of the bead and the sealing effect can be maintained, but excessive force acts on the gasket between the joint surfaces where the gap has become smaller. This excessive force presses the gasket strongly against the joint surface and prevents it from escaping.
If the gasket is deformed or the bead bites into the joint surface, the gasket may break and the joint surface may be damaged, resulting in a disadvantage that the sealing effect is deteriorated.

[Purpose of the Invention] Therefore, the present invention solves such problems and prevents deformation of the gasket or bead breakage even if excessive force is applied to the gasket due to deformation of the members to be joined due to thermal distortion, tightening, etc. ,
Another object of the present invention is to realize a metal gasket that does not reduce the sealing effect due to damage to the joint surfaces.

[Structure of the Invention] To achieve this object, the present invention is characterized in that at least one side of the gasket made of an elastic metal plate is subjected to anti-friction treatment. In this way, at least one side of the gasket is treated to reduce friction, that is, to improve the sliding contact with the joint surface, so that even if an excessive force is applied, the gasket can slide and escape.

[発明の実施例] 次にこの発明の実施例を図に基づいて詳細に説明する。[Embodiments of the invention] Next, embodiments of the present invention will be described in detail based on the drawings.

In the figure, 2 is a gasket made of an elastic metal plate, and 4 is a bead. An antifriction layer 10 made of molybdenum disulfide, graphite, or the like is formed on one of the contact surfaces 6.8 of the gasket 2, which is the lower contact surface 8 in the figure, to improve sliding.

If the engine is driven in this state, the bonding surface 16 will be damaged due to thermal distortion.
.. The gap between 18 becomes smaller from I21 in FIG. 2 to 12 in FIG. 3, and a large force acts on the gasket 2. In this case, with conventional gaskets, the sealing effect deteriorates due to bead breakage and the like.

However, according to the present invention, the anti-friction layer 10 is formed on the lower contact surface 8 of the gasket 2 to improve the sliding, so that the base portions 22 spread in the direction shown by the arrow a at the bead 4 portion, making it easier to slide. You can run away. Therefore, deformation of the gasket 2 as a whole can be prevented by sliding and escaping without causing bead breakage or damage to the joint surfaces, and therefore, deterioration of the sealing effect can be prevented.

[Effects of the Invention] As described above, according to the present invention, even if excessive force is applied to the gasket due to deformation of the members to be joined due to thermal distortion, tightening, etc., at least one side of the gasket is treated to reduce friction. , it can slide and escape without digging into the joint surface. Therefore, there is no gasket deformation or bead breakage.
Furthermore, since the bonding surface is not damaged, it is possible to prevent the sealing effect from deteriorating.
