Abstract

PURPOSE:To raise the printing speed of a heat sensitive printer and reduce its installing space by such an arrangement wherein plural print heads are arranged in parallel to the direction of feeding of a heat sensitive recording paper and they are driven simultaneously or at different points of timing. CONSTITUTION:Input signals 1 are applied to a data buffer 7 wherein character codes are converted into character patterns and the character patterns of the first line are sent, through No. 1 character print route, to a line buffer 8 by line unit and stored therein. Also, the character patterns of the second line are sent, through No. 2 character print route, to a line buffer 11 and stored therein. The character patterns stored in the line buffer 8 drive a print head 10 and the printing of the first line is made on a heat-sensitive recording paper (a). Similarly, the character patterns stored in the line buffer 11 drive a print head 13 and the printing of the second line is performed. Since the printing of 2 lines is carried out simultaneously like this, the printing speed of the printer is doubled.

[Detailed Description of the Invention] [Technical Field of the Invention] The present invention relates to a thermal printing method using a thermal printer [Technical Background of the Invention] Generally, the print head of a thermal printer prints pulses continuously at high speed on the same heating element. When this voltage is applied, there are problems such as damage to the print head due to the heat generated by the heating element. For this reason, thermal printers that perform high-speed printing use print heads with good heat dissipation, and take measures such as cooling the head quickly after printing.

That is, the printing speed depends on the performance of the thermal print head, and when higher speed printing is required, a method of artificially speeding up printing using multiple thermal printers has been used.

and stored in the data buffer 3a. The data buffer 3a converts the input signal 1 from a character code into a character pattern, adds it to the line buffer 4a line by line, and drives the print head 6a via the head drive circuit 5a to perform predetermined printing on thermal recording paper. If the input signal for the next document is sent continuously before printer a finishes printing one page of document, the changeover switch 2 is switched to the printer b side, and the same operation causes the input signal 1 to be sent.
is applied to the line buffer 4b via the changeover switch 2 and the data buffer 3b, and the print head 6b is driven by the head drive circuit 5b to print on the thermal recording paper.

[Problems with the background art] However, although the above-mentioned conventional method is effective when printing several sheets of originals continuously, it is difficult to use efficiently when printing data is input intermittently. There was a drawback that no effect could be expected as it only reduced the quality of the printer, and that it required multiple printers, which required a fairly large installation space for the equipment.

The printer 14 according to the present invention has a first print path consisting of a data buffer 7, a line buffer 8, a head drive circuit 9, and a print head 10; The two print heads 10 and 13 are spaced apart by a line interval in a direction perpendicular to the scanning direction of the thermal recording paper. First, input signal 1 indicating print information is applied to data buffer 7 and stored. In this data buffer 7, the human input signal 1 is converted from a character code to a character pattern, and the character pattern in the first line is sent line by line to the line buffer 8 along the first printing path and stored as pattern data.

In this way, one input signal 1 is processed by the data buffer 7 in the first . The print heads io, i3=<< are distributed to the second printing system path, and two lines of printing are performed simultaneously. When the printing of these two lines is completed, the application of printing pulses to the print heads 10 and 13 is stopped, and a certain period of idling is performed. During this period, the thermal recording paper is fed by two lines, and when the certain period of idling ends, the data buffer 7 is transmits the print information of the third line to the print head 10 via the first print system path, and also sends the print information of the fourth line to the print head L3 via the second print system path to print these two lines. Do it at the same time. Thereafter, in the same manner, two lines are printed at a time while taking a predetermined idle time. According to this method, since two lines are printed simultaneously, the printing speed can be doubled compared to the case of a single head.

Although the above embodiment shows a case in which two print heads are installed side by side, it is of course possible to arrange three or more print heads in parallel.

The above explanation is an example of a printer that prints text etc., and it is an explanation when there is a space between each line.
In the case of other types of printing such as graphics, printing speed can be increased in the same way by dividing the blocks into flocks at intervals where the print head can be mounted and printing different blocks at the same time.

[Effects of the Invention] As explained above, according to the present invention, fL prints by arranging several heads in parallel in the thermal recording/recording paper feeding direction, so the printing speed is lower than that of the head performance of the existing technology. can be made faster. This is because, compared to the case where printers with lotus needles are arranged side by side to print, there is no drop in printing speed even with intermittent manual labor, and since only multiple circuits around the head are required, the external dimensions of the printer itself do not increase too much. Installation space is also reduced.

Note that the print head needs to be idle for a certain period of time to cool down after applying the print pulse, so if the print head is placed in front so that the print pulse can be applied to other print heads during this period, the noboru valley amount will be [:13 character head 1 It only takes one car.

Furthermore, in a line printer, if one print head feeds the remaining heads between lines while printing, the power supply is needed for one printer, and the line buffer is also operated by one unit, resulting in miniaturization.
