Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent drop of the output power of a Diesel engine owing to clogging with wax, by controlling a solenoid-operated valve and a heating device using a computer and by dissolving the wax quickly with minor amount of electric power. CONSTITUTION:When drop of the fuel temp. causes eduction of the wax in the fuel and clogging has occurred in No.1 fuel filter 2 to a certain degree, a negative pressure is generated at the understream. Therefore clog a sensor 11 to sense negative pressure or fuel temp. will emit a signal, which is fed into a computer 13. This computer 13 controls a solenoid-operated valve 10 so that the fuel and wax flow to a by-pass 7 and, at the same time, supplies current to the meshed heater 18 of No.2 fuel filter 9, so as to heat the filter element 16 for dissolution of the wax to ensure that the fuel flows well to the injection pump 3.

Conventionally, in diesel engine fuel supply systems,
An injection pump pumps fuel from the fuel tank through a fuel pipe and a fuel filter, and the injection pump applies high pressure to the fuel,
The high-pressure fuel is injected into each combustion chamber of a diesel engine by a fuel injection valve, but when the fuel temperature drops during cold weather, wax may precipitate in the fuel. This wax sometimes causes the fuel filter to become clogged, resulting in a reduction in engine output due to insufficient fuel supply to the engine. As a countermeasure against this problem, there is a system in which the fuel filter is provided with a heating device to heat the fuel filter when the temperature is low.

In this case, the existing fuel filter described above has a large capacity because it must be kept in a usable state against clogging by dirt and the like during a long period of use of the vehicle. Therefore, the above-mentioned conventional technology has the problem that it requires a large amount of electric power and takes a considerable amount of time until the fuel filter warms up.

According to the present invention, the negative pressure or fuel temperature on the downstream side of the fuel filter is sensed, and when the negative pressure is above a predetermined value or the fuel temperature is below a predetermined value, the upstream side of the fuel filter is detected. A diesel engine characterized in that the fuel is heated and passed through a small-capacity fuel filter having a heating device separate from the fuel filter by operating a solenoid valve provided on the side thereof. C is achieved by the fuel supply system.

The operation of the above embodiment will be explained. In Figure 1, when the fuel temperature is at room temperature, wax does not precipitate in the fuel;
The fuel passes from the fuel tank 1 through the fuel visor 5 to the first
It flows through the l/311 filter 2 into the cylinder y and into the comb bomb 3. When socks are deposited in the F L 'C1a material with a low fuel temperature and the first fuel 1'1 filter 2 becomes clogged to some extent, a negative pressure is generated on the downstream side thereof. Therefore, the clogging detector 11 which senses the negative pressure or the fuel quality issues a signal 'C' which is input to the reliable signal computer 13.

The second pump I3 controls the electromagnetic valve 10 so that the fuel and wax flow toward the bypass passage [lδ7], and at the same time energizes the mesh heater 18 of the second fuel filter 9 to set the filter element 16 to °C. Heat the wax to 78 m², allowing fuel to flow to the injector pump 3). In this case, since the second fuel filter 9 has a small capacity, it reaches the wax melting temperature with small electric power and in a short time.
