Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent a removed developer from entering around a blade end part into the cleaned image formation area of an image carrier, by the constitution which has a cleaning member abutting on the image carrier crossing its movement direction and a catching member abutting on the surface of the image carrier of a downstream side at the end of the cleaning member in the movement direction. CONSTITUTION:A developer removed by an elastic cleaning blade 11 is separated from the image carrier 1 by a removed toner guide sheet member 12 and guided into a housing 3. The catching member 14 abuts on he surface of the image carrier 14 on the movement-directional downstream side of the cleaning member end part to catch a removed developer overflowing over the end part of the blade 11. The catching member 14 is applied with enough pressure to clean off the overflowing developer. An alternate long and short dash line P indicates the boundary of the picture formation area on the image carrier 1, and the right-hand side shown by an arrow is the formation area. The catching member 14 has its end part positioned at up to the boundary P and never enters into the picture formation area. Consequently, the generation of partial wear by sliding friction with the catching member 14 in the picture formation area of the image carrier 1 is prevented.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION The present invention relates to a cleaning device, and more particularly to a cleaning device for removing residual deposits on a wand and a moving image carrier.

Conventionally, an image forming apparatus that forms an electrostatic latent image on an image carrier such as an electrophotographic photoreceptor, develops it, and transfers it, or forms a magnetic latent image on an image carrier such as a magnetic recording material, and performs development and transfer. A blade cleaning method is widely used as a cleaning/jer device for an image bearing member of an image forming apparatus or the like.

In this type of IJ-ing device, the width of the cleaning blade that abuts across the moving direction of the image carrier is made sufficiently longer than the width of the image forming area, so that even if the removed developer moves considerably along the blade edge, it can be removed. The structure is such that the developer does not enter the image area from the side edge of the blade.

By the way, when trying to downsize the cleaning device in order to downsize the image forming apparatus, it becomes necessary to make the width of the cleaning blade closer to the width of the image forming area. For this reason, there is a possibility that the removed developer that has moved along the blade contact portion may enter the image forming area of the cleaned image carrier from the blade side end.

As a countermeasure against this problem, a configuration may be considered in which a sealing member such as a sponge is provided at the side end of the casing opening of the cleaning device and the sealing member is brought into close contact with the blade side end. However, it is difficult to completely bring the blade and the sealing member into close contact with each other so that the removed developer (of several microns to several tens of microns) does not pass through them. - When the two are brought into close contact with each other, the effects of expansion and contraction due to temperature changes cannot be ignored. At the time of expansion, elastic displacement near the end of the blade may be restricted, resulting in poor cleaning. On the other hand, when shrinking, the adhesion between the two is not maintained, so the removed developer may leak out and cause an adverse effect on the subsequent image formation. The present invention has been made in view of the above points, and is novel. This article relates to an excellent IJ control device.

A conveyor belt 9 conveys the transfer material to a fixing means (not shown). Reference numeral 10 denotes an lJ=ing device based on the present invention. Reference numeral 11 denotes an elastic cleaning blade, and 12 denotes a toner removal guide sheet member, each of which is provided at the opening of the housing 16. Reference numeral 11 is the cleaning blade described above, and reference numeral 12 is a removed toner guide sheet member. Reference numeral 14 indicates a capture member, and reference numeral 15 indicates a seal member provided at the opening side end of the housing. The capture member 14 has a surface made of a material such as a porous elastic material or wool felt, and is sufficient to wipe away leaked developer. A pressing force is applied. However, in order to avoid wear and tear on the surface of the image carrier, a linear pressure of 1 kg/cm or less, preferably 100 f.
It is best to set it to /cm or less.

Also, since it comes into contact with the drum surface, it should have a smooth surface (low coefficient of friction). Also, it is important that the surface is porous or fibrous so that powder and the like can be easily collected within this surface. Wool felt, Teflon felt, etc. have elasticity by themselves, have a smooth surface, and have good powder-collecting properties. However, with the above-mentioned felt, a very small amount of fluff is likely to appear, and the fluff may enter the corona discharger and cause uneven charging, so it is better to heat the surface slightly, for example. This makes it possible to obtain a good cleaning member that does not easily generate fuzz.

Further, the dashed line shown in FIG. 2P indicates the boundary of the image forming area on the image carrier, and the area to the right of the arrow is the forming area. The aforementioned capturing member 14 has its end up to the boundary P and is configured to prevent it from entering the image forming area.0 As a result, partial abrasion occurs in the image forming area of the image carrier due to rubbing with the capturing member 14. This can be prevented.

The illustrated capturing member 14' has a functional multilayer structure in which the first layer 15 has an elastic function and the second layer 16 has a sliding property and a capturing function. Moltoprene is used for the first layer 15, and flocked cloth or Seine skin-like polyester cloth is used for the second layer. With this configuration, there was no damage to the image bearing member, the powder collection performance was high, and there was no occurrence of stains due to fluff, indicating good usability.

Also, the cleaning blade 1 and the capture member 14 (14')
The narrower the distance between the two, the better. Since the scattering from the end of the blade spreads in a fan shape, if the gap between the two is too wide, a wide capturing member is required. enters the image area of the camera and damages the image carrier. For this reason, the formed image will be an image with scratches. For this reason, as mentioned above, regardless of whether the surface of the image carrier is easily scratched or not, it is best to place the capture member outside the image forming area. It is.

Further, a sealing member 15 provided at the opening side end of the housing elastically contacts the side end of the image carrier to prevent the removed developer from leaking out to the side. A configuration may also be adopted in which the blade side in the drawing (the downstream side in the direction of movement of the image carrier) of this sealing member is extended and is also used as the first layer of the capturing member of the third illustrated configuration. At this time, as shown in the fourth figure, a thread 17 having a smooth surface such as polyethylene is pasted on the end seal side, and the same type of flocked cloth, felt, etc. as described above may be pasted on the capture member 14'' side.

Furthermore, when the removed developer has magnetism, the trapping effect can be enhanced by applying a magnetic field to the trapping member. In the case of a normal tribo-type developer, an adsorption polarity voltage may also be used.

As described above in detail in the specific examples, the present invention provides a cleaning device that removes residual deposits on a moving image carrier, in which a cleaning member dissipates across the moving direction of the image carrier. The cleaning member is characterized by having a surface of the image carrier on the downstream side in the direction of movement of the image carrier at the end of the cleaning member, and a liquid-eliminating capture portion.

According to the present invention, the above-described structure prevents the removed developer from entering the image forming area of the cleaned image carrier from the end of the blade. Moreover, the above configuration enables a compact device.
