Abstract

PURPOSE:To light up also a bar code on an embossed surface or a metallic surface and to obtain proper reflected light by arranging a light diffusing member on the optical path of an objective part. CONSTITUTION:A laser beam from a laser tube 13 is reflected by a transmission mirror 16 and a scanning mirror 17, projected from a window 18 of a case 12 and irradiated to a bar code 21. The reflected light from the bar code 21 is made incident to the window 18, reflected by the mirror 17, passed through the mirror 16, relfected by a receiving mirror 15, and then made incident to a photomultiplier 14. The light diffusing member 22 is fitted to the window 18 of the case 12 opposed to the bar code 21. Consequently, a lighting beam is diffused by the light diffusing member 22 at the projection from the window 18 of the case 12, and lights up the bar code 21, so that the bar code is precisely lighted.

However, due to product design requirements, the barcode printing area is sometimes embossed, but in this case, as shown in Figure 1, the illumination of the laser beam 3 is affected by the unevenness of the embossment 2. Also, the reflected light from the bar code is not uniformly obtained, and there is a part where the beam does not hit the own bar or black bar of the bar code, and the light is reflected from that part. Due to the lack of light, the barcode may not be read or may be read as a different type of bar.
This causes reading errors.

In addition, if a barcode is printed on an object with a curvature that is close to a mirror surface, such as a metal can, the reflectance of the metal surface is high, so depending on the incident angle of the beam, the beam may be strongly reflected by total internal reflection, or On the other hand, no reflected light enters the reading device, and the metal surface is detected as a white barcode or a black barcode, which also causes reading errors.

To solve this problem, a method is used in which the background of the metal surface is made into a black bar as a white outline, but even in this case, it may not be possible to read the background due to the reflection of the metal surface that becomes the black bar.

At a3 in FIG. 2, 11 is the main body of the barcode reading device, and the main body 11 of the barcode reading device includes a transmitter 1 to mirror consisting of a laser tube 13, a photomultiplier 111, a receive mirror 15, and a half mirror in a housing 12. 16 and a scanning mirror 17, and the optical path of the laser beam is configured as follows. The laser beam from the laser tube 13 is sent to the transmitting mirror 16
The light reflected by the scanning mirror 17 is emitted from the window 18 of the housing 12 to illuminate the barcode 21, and the reflected light from the barcode 21 enters the window 18 and is reflected by the scanning mirror 17. 1 ~ Lancemit mirror 1
6, is reflected by the receive mirror 15, and enters the photomultiplier 14 fA? 1'ru. This configuration is no different from conventional barcode reading devices. A particularly important feature of this invention is that the optical path of the objective portion of the barcode reader main body 11 is
The point is that a light diffusing member is provided at F. That is, a light diffusing member 22 is attached to the window 18 of the housing 12 facing the barcode 21 that is the object to be detected, and the illumination beam and reflected beam to the barcode 21 pass through this light diffusing part vJ22. It looks like this. As the light diffusing member 22, any material having a fine light diffusing effect, such as frosted glass, a synthetic resin film with a matte surface, and Δ pearl glass, can be used.

It is desirable that the light diffusing member 22 be placed as close as possible to the barcode 21. In this embodiment, the light diffusing member 22 is installed outside the window 18, but the barcode If it is not possible to attach it directly to the housing 12 due to structural limitations of the reader main body 11, it may be attached to the housing 12 as an adapter. FIG. 3 shows that the light diffusing member 21 is configured as an adapter 23.
Embodiment C is shown, in which a light diffusing member 22 is attached so as to close the opening at the tip of a cylindrical adapter main body 24. The adapter main body 24 is attached to the housing 12.

When the light diffusing member 22 is configured as an adapter in this way, the light diffusing member 2
2 close to the barcode 21, barcode reading becomes more accurate, and existing barcode reading devices can be used as is, greatly increasing versatility. . In the barcode reading device 83 configured in this way, when the illumination beam directed at the barcode 21 is emitted from the window 18 of the housing 12, it is diffused by the light diffusing member 22 to illuminate the barcode 21. As a result, the barcode 21 is illuminated from multiple directions as shown in FIG. 4, and even if the barcode has irregularities, there are no shadowy parts, and the barcode is reliably illuminated. It is possible to obtain 4q reflected lights that accurately correspond to the pal code. Furthermore, even if the barcode printing surface is a curved mirror surface such as a metal can, the pal code can be illuminated reliably, making it easy to accurately detect the shape of the barcode.
