Abstract

PURPOSE:To staple copies at a correct position by providing a sorter for a copying machine having a reciprocating scanning optical system with two series of bins and with a reversing mechanism disposed on the boundary between two series of bins. CONSTITUTION:When the first copy enters between guide plates 7, in a fixed time later after detection of a sensor, an indexer 10a1 is turned to guide the first copy into a bin 10a1. When the next copy comes, the copy is transported upward by a vacuum transport 8, reversed by a reversing mechanism 12, again transported to an indexer 10a12 by the vacuum transport 8. The copy is advanced into a bin 9a12 by turning the indexer. This is repeated in the following. The third copy is stored in a bin 9a2, and the fourth copy in a bin 9a11. On the completion of copying, staplers 13, 14 of respective bin series are operated to staple the copies at the same position.

In the figure, the copies ejected from the copying machine are sent to the sorter 5 of this embodiment from the direction of the arrow a, with the contents rotated by 180 degrees in the -branch, as described in the section on the prior art. It's coming. The copies are fed forward by rolls 6, pass through guide plate 7, and enter sorter 5. A sensor (not shown) for detecting when a copy has passed is provided at an appropriate position on the guide plate 7, and this detects the time when a copy has passed and the number of copies that have passed.

Further, the indexer that has been rotated in response to a certain copy is configured to quickly return to its original position when the copy passes through the indexer, so as not to interfere with the transfer of the next copy by the vacuum transport 8. Note that for controlling the operation of such an indexer, techniques used in conventional sorters can be applied.

Therefore, the second copy is placed in the bin 9a12. At this time, since the copy is reversed by the reversing mechanism 12, it enters the bin 9a12 from the same direction as the copy that entered the first bin 9al. When the copy has finished entering the bin 9a12, the indexer 10axz is rotated back to its original state.
