Abstract

PURPOSE:To provide a high pressure discharge lamp producing uniform luminous intensity distribution and giving good appearance, by arranging the illuminating tube in the right direction to the axis of the discharge lamp and disposing a reflecting plate between the illuminating tube and the leads. CONSTITUTION:The illuminating tube 2 is supported by the supporting frame 27 virtually bent into U shape, so that the axis of the illuminating tube is in the direction perpendicular to the axis of the lamp running from the base 11 to the end of the outer tube 1. The stem leads 7a-7c are hermetically sealed through the external tube 1. Between the stem leads 7a-7c and the illuminating tube 2, there is provided supported by the supporting frame 27 a reflecting plate 28 being convex toward the illuminating tube 2. Accordingly, no shade of the supporting frame 27 is projected on the external tube 1 and the shades of other members are cancelled by the reflected light from the reflecting plate 28 and so uniform luminous intensity distribution can be provided.

Conventionally, high pressure discharge lamps have been used on roads, sports grounds, gymnasiums, factories, etc. In recent years, high-pressure discharge lamps have attracted attention as power-saving light sources because they are compact and highly efficient, and their use is gradually spreading to commercial facilities. However, for use in commercial facilities, an instantaneous restart is required, which is different from the above-mentioned road use, so a heating element is installed near one electrode in the arc tube, and a lighting tube is used as a starter. A high-pressure discharge lamp equipped with a starting aid on the outside of the arc tube has been proposed, and examples of such high-pressure mercury lamps include those shown in FIGS. 1 and 2. In the figure, 1 is an outer tube formed into a substantially spherical shape, and 2 is an arc tube housed within this outer tube 1. As shown in FIG. Further, 3a and 3b are a pair of main electrodes provided at both ends of the arc tube 2, and 4 is a heating body provided near the main electrode 3a. The main electrode 3a is connected to the outer tube 1 through a molybdenum foil 5a and a lead 6.

Furthermore, this stem lead 7a is connected to a base 11 via a series lead 8, a stabilizer 9, and a lead 10. On the other hand, the main electrode 3b is a molybdenum foil 5b.

It is connected to the stem lead 7b via the lead 12 and support frame 13, and further connected to the base 11 via the lead 14. Further, one terminal of the heating body 4 is connected to a molybdenum foil 5.
a, the other terminal is connected to the terminal 19 of the lighting tube 18 via the molybdenum foil 15, the sudo 16, the stem lead 7c and the lead 17, and the other terminal 20 of the lighting tube 18 is connected to the lead. It is connected to the stem lead 7b via 21. A starting aid 22 made of a molybdenum wire of 0.1.phi. is wound around the outer surface of the arc tube 1, and both ends of the starting aid 22 are connected to a support frame 13. Note that this has the effect of lowering the starting voltage. The inner surface of the outer tube 1 is coated with a phosphor, and the inside is filled with nitrogen. The lighting tube 18, ballast 9, etc. are housed in a case 23 that is integrally provided between the outer tube 1 and the base 11.

In such a high-pressure mercury lamp, when the power supply 24 is connected to the base 11, the fixed pole 25 and the movable pole 26 of the lighting tube 18 are first connected.
A discharge occurs between the two, and electrons are emitted from the heating body 4. When the movable pole 26 is deformed by the heat of the discharge and the two poles come into contact, the discharge stops and heating also stops, causing the two poles to separate.

At this time, the ballast 9 generates a surge voltage, and the terminal 20 that generates a high voltage is applied to the main electrode 3b. As a result, the electrons emitted from the heating body 4 increase the conductivity between the main electrodes 3a and 3b, and discharge is started to turn on the lamp.

However, in such a high-pressure mercury lamp, the shadow of the support frame 13 is projected onto the outer bulb 1 while the lamp is lit, and the shadow of the sealing part on the main electrode 3b side of the arc tube 2 is also projected onto the outer bulb 1. There was a problem with uneven light distribution. In particular, when used in commercial facilities, the lamp is installed at a lower position compared to the usage conditions of roads, grounds, etc., so the lamp's internal configuration tends to be affected, which affects the lamp's light distribution and luminous flux. Further, disadvantages such as a large psychological discomfort due to the shadow projected on the outer tube 1 were inevitable.
