Abstract

PURPOSE:To reduce consumption of lubricating oil in an internal combustion engine, by forming an angular projection at the top surface of each side rail used in a combined oil ring for the engine so that the side rails are held in line contact with the inner wall surface of a cylinder when they slide along the cylinder surface. CONSTITUTION:A steel oil ring, having side rails 2 disposed respectively at an upper and a lower pressure-acted surfaces of a space expander 5 with an upper and a lower projections 6 for pushing the side rails 2 outwards, is fitted in a ring groove 9 of a piston 8. The piston 8 is fitted in a cylinder 1 in the state that the oil ring is compressed. Here, an angular projection 4 is formed at the top of the outer peripheral surface 3 of each side rail 2, and the angle of these projections 4 is set in the range of 4 deg. to 12 deg..

In recent years, as the performance of internal combustion engines has improved, great consideration has been paid to lubricant control, but in particular, the lubricant control function of piston rings has become increasingly difficult to improve. A steel combination oil ring with high tensile strength and high surface pressure has been developed that has an improved lubricating oil control function and cylinder tracking ability. On the other hand, the development of fuel-efficient engines is also an important issue, and it is a well-known fact that in developing such fuel-efficient engines, it is necessary to reduce friction loss in the reciprocating parts. Reduction of ring tension is required. In other words, recent piston rings for internal combustion engines (particularly steel mating U oil rings) are required to have high tension and high surface pressure in order to improve lubricating oil control function, while at the same time, they are required to have high tension and high surface pressure in order to improve the lubricating oil control function. For this reason, low tension is required, which is a contradictory requirement.

Conventionally, methods such as reducing the radial thickness of the sight rail or improving the roundness of the sight rail alone have been taken as countermeasures, but in these methods, the shape of the outer circumferential tip of the lotus/id rail itself is trapezoidal or trapezoidal. It has a circular arc shape with a radius of curvature, and the sliding surface that makes sliding contact with the cylinder at the beginning of operation is large, so if the set tension is reduced, a decrease in the actual surface pressure is unavoidable. Especially in the initial state of engine operation, the 1i71 lubricating oil consumption increases due to a drop in actual blood pressure, so even higher performance is required as a countermeasure.

The present invention was devised to solve the above-mentioned problems, and it reduces lubricating oil consumption even at the same tension as conventional rings without changing the basic shape of the silk oil ring etc. We would like to offer a combination oil ring night rail that can be used.

That is, the present invention is characterized in that the combination oil ring J3 for an internal combustion engine is provided with a protrusion angle formed at the tip of the outer peripheral surface of the sight rail.

以下、本発明を付図の実施例に従って詳述する。Hereinafter, the present invention will be described in detail according to embodiments shown in the accompanying drawings.

FIG. 1 is a plan view of the sight rail of the present invention, FIG. 2 is a sectional side view of the same, FIG. 3 is an enlarged sectional side view of the outer peripheral tip of the conventional sight rail in the sectional side view of FIG. Fig. 5 is an enlarged cross-sectional side view of the tip of the outer peripheral surface of the invention sight rail, and the spacer expander and the upper and lower 1-noid rails are inserted into the ring groove of the piston by fitting U, and inserted into the cylinder in a compressed state. It is a cross-sectional side view of a state.

In FIGS. 1, 2, 4, and 5, a protrusion angle 4 is formed at the tip of the outer peripheral surface 3 of the sight rail 2. As shown in FIGS. It is preferable that the protrusion angle is set at 4° to 12°. That is, if the angle is less than 4°, the desired effect will be lost at an early stage, while if the angle exceeds 12°, the initial surface pressure will increase, causing adverse effects such as scuffing.

In FIG. 5, the sight rails 2 are respectively attached to the upper and lower pressure receiving surfaces 7 of the spacer expander 5, which has the sight rail pressing protrusions 6 arranged above and below in the ring groove 9 of the piston 8, and are integrally fitted together. #: M71 ring is fitted, and this is inserted into cylinder 1 with a compressed shape.

Here, when the piston 8 moves at high speed due to high-speed operation due to internal combustion, the sight rail 2 has a protruding angle on the outer peripheral surface of the sight rail 2 with respect to the sliding contact with the cylinder 1. The tip of this protrusion angle part is always cylinder 1.
By keeping the line contact at 1q, the actual surface pressure increases, and the appropriate amount of lubricating oil interposed as an oil film on the cylinder wall is adjusted.

Next, we will introduce the force that forms the protrusion angle at the tip of the outer circumferential surface according to the present invention. The results of the experiment are shown in Figure 6.
The average of the 11i angles is 1°I'I compared to the oil consumption angle. Figure 7 shows an enlarged view of the tip of the circumferential surface of the idle rail used in this experiment, before and after operation.

b) By setting a protrusion angle on the tip of the outer peripheral surface, the tip of the outer peripheral surface of the sight rail maintains surface contact with the cylinder wall surface at IF''1 even during high-speed operation of internal combustion engines. J: The lubricating oil control function is white clay because it shows a line contact instead and the actual blood pressure is 'X'.
