PURPOSE:To simplify fabrication operation and to cut down cost by arranging a color filter formed on a polarizing plate by direct printing or vapor deposition of a dye, on one of the two glass substrates of a multicolor display type liquid crystal display device. CONSTITUTION:Orienting films 4a, 4b made of polyimide or the like are formed on glass substrates 1a, 1b provided with transparent electrodes 3a, 3b, liquid crystals 5 are injected into an inside space 5, and it is sealed. A resin dispersing or dissolving a dye is printed on a polarizing plate 9 or directly vapor deposited to it, and the plate 9 is arranged on one of the substrate 1a.
