Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent the failure of press dies owing to the defective shape and size of slag which is a blank material for cold forging by passing said slag through a shape checking device having a specific mechanism prior to feeding said slag to a press. CONSTITUTION:Slag 2 as a blank material for cold forging is moved over an inclined chute 1 prior to cold forging with a press and a stopper 3 is lowered to stop the slag at a shape and size checking station where the slag is pressed by a holder 4. A stopper 5 is lowered at the same time to stop the next slag in the previous station. A punch member 6 having the shape conforming to the inside diameter of the slag 2 is attached in a moving part 7 in the shape and size checking station and a large diameter cylinder device 8 is connected to the part 7 by means of two small diameter rods 9. The member 6 is advanced, retreated and rotated by said device and a rack cylinder device 10, by which the outside and inside diametral sizes of the slag 2 are automatically checked and the slag having a defective shape is removed.
