Abstract

PURPOSE:To provide the titled dry-type apparatus applicable also to a water- soluble film, by arranging a press roll to press the metallized film to the rotary drum, a device to remove pressure-sensitive adhesive from the drum, a device for applying a pressure-sensitive adhesive and a drying device in the order around the rotary drum to be coated with a pressure-sensitive adhesive. CONSTITUTION:A surface of a plastic film 7 is printed with a resin having excellent releasability from the film to form the printed part 8 and the unprinted part 9. The wholly metallized film 2 is passed between the rotary drum 1 and the press roll 3 facing the metallized surface to the drum 1, and at the same time, the drum 1 and the roll 3 are rotated. The surface of the drum 1 is coated with a pressure-sensitive adhesive by the applicator 5 according to the rotation of the drum 1, and the dried adhesive 11 is made to contact with the film 2 between the drum 1 and the roll 3. When the metallized film is released from the printed film, the resin of the printed part 8 and the metallized layer 10 on the printed part are released from the film 7 leaving the metallized layer 10 on the unprinted part 9 to form a partially metallized film. The released printed part 8 is removed together with the pressure-sensitive adhesive 11 by the removing device 4.

Traditionally, as a method for partially metallizing plastic films, a metal vapor deposition layer is formed on the film, partial printing is performed on the film, and then this is immersed in an alkaline solution or an acid solution to deposit metal on the non-printed areas. A method of dissolving and removing only the layer, or printing with water-soluble paint on the film, forming a metal vapor deposited layer over the entire surface, and then washing this with water to remove only the metal vapor deposited layer on the printed area along with the paint. The method is known. However, these methods all involve immersion in an alkaline solution or acid solution or washing with water, so if a water-soluble plastic film is used, the film will dissolve, and if a highly water-absorbent Plus 4-Tsuku film is used, the film will dissolve. Water-soluble or highly water-absorbing plastic film could not be used. Furthermore, even when using water-insoluble plastic films such as polyester films, large-scale equipment for dipping or washing is required.
Furthermore, drying after soaking or washing with water was also necessary.

The present invention is as described above, and is a dry method for producing a partially vapor deposited film, whereas the conventional partially vapor deposited soil film is produced by a so-called wet method such as dipping or washing with water. Therefore, in the present invention, water-soluble or highly water-absorbent plastic films can also be used, since there is no need to immerse the vapor-deposited film in an alkaline or acid solution and then wash it with water as in the conventional method.
