In order to prevent the airflows S1 and S2 from leaking from these channels, a sealing material Se is generally attached to the frame F, and the rotary heat exchanger E is equipped with a sealing material Se.
The contact portions (both end surfaces) in contact with e slide on the sealing material Se as it rotates.

Therefore, if the rotary heat exchanger is made of non-metallic materials such as asbestos, the rigidity and wear resistance will be low, and the contact parts will wear out due to sliding with the sealing material Se, causing dust generation. Another problem is that they are easily damaged and become unusable.

That is, after being formed into a wavy shape by passing between forming rolls whose outer circumferential surfaces are formed into a wavy shape, the strip 6 made of a strip of asbestos paper wound around the roll is fed and overlapped with the strip 6. The rotary heat exchanger 7 is wound in a spiral shape as a whole to form a honeycomb shape.

Therefore, when this rotary heat exchanger 7 is used in a generally used manner, for example, the manner shown in FIGS.
Since both end faces of the rotary heat exchanger 7 are coated with protective coatings 2', the rotary heat exchanger 7 slides on the sealing material Se as it rotates, but is hardly subject to wear or damage.

According to the present invention, since an exchanger such as a rotary heat exchanger is coated with a protective member on both sides of the base material, there is almost no wear or damage even when sliding on a sealing material, etc., and the base material As a material with low rigidity, such as asbestos, can be used, which simplifies the construction. However, in this case, it generates almost no dust during use, which helps prevent asbestos pollution, and prevents it from becoming unusable due to damage. Moreover, in terms of manufacturing, since the base material provided with the protective coating is subjected to the process for molding, there are no countermeasures against unexpected deformation during molding, destruction due to insufficient strength, etc. It has many practical advantages, such as ease of management.
