On the other hand, liquid crystal display elements that can display colors using the ECB effect have characteristics that are unsuitable for matrix display, such as slow response speed and colors other than the desired color appearing as crosstalk, making them completely unsuitable for displaying moving images. It is possible.

That is, the present invention provides a liquid crystal display device that displays colors by utilizing a change in the birefringence of liquid crystal due to the application of an electric field. Alternatively, a set of electrodes that are arranged continuously in a straight line and occupy periodic positions among the plurality of electrodes is set, and each set has a 15H2 to 0.
This is a liquid crystal display device comprising a drive unit for changing the birefringence index of the liquid crystal by applying electrical signals of 5 Hz with different phases, and using electrical signals of 15H2 to 0.5 Hz with different phases. Therefore, in the case of radially arranged electrodes, the displayed color image appears to the human eye to be rotating, and in the case of linearly arranged electrodes, the color image appears to move in one direction. It is observed as if it were there.

The reason why we limited the frequency of the electrical signal to 15Hz to 0.5Hz is because at frequencies above 15Hz, the response of the liquid crystal is slow, so all the electrodes have the same color image and do not appear to be moving. , 5 Hz or less, the afterimage time is sufficiently longer than the afterimage time of the human eye, so the color image appears to simply blink and no movement is observed.

Between the first and second glass plates a and a' so that the glass plates 10' and 10' face each other, a liquid crystal is placed, for example, 4 parts by weight of p'-methoxybenzylidene-p-n-butylaniline and p'n-butoxy. A nematic liquid crystal with positive dielectric anisotropy prepared by mixing 1 part by weight of benzylidene-p-cyanoaniline was sandwiched to a thickness of, for example, 8 μm to prepare a liquid crystal cell.
