Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent clogging in a tundish nozzle by providing an electromagnetic stirring coil on the outside of said nozzle and stirring the molten steel passing in the nozzle forward and backward alternately at every prescribed time. CONSTITUTION:An electromagnetic stirring coil 3 is installed on the outside of a tundish nozzle 2 provided in the bottom of a tundish 1. Electric current in forward and backward direction is applied on the coil 3 at every time in a 5-30sec range to stir the molten steel under pasage through the inside of the nozzle 2 forward and backward alternately. The sticking of the inclusions in the molten steel on the wall surface of the nozzle 2 is thus obviated and the clogging in the nozzle 2 is prevented.

One of the factors that inhibit this multiple casting is nozzle clogging due to At203 inclusions in the molten steel adhering to the tundish nozzle wall surface.

Therefore, the present inventors conducted research to solve the above problems, and as a result, they obtained the following knowledge. That is,
Using an actual continuous casting machine, an electromagnetic stirring coil is installed outside the tundish nozzle, and a current is applied to this coil in the forward and reverse directions at predetermined time intervals (hereinafter referred to as alternating stirring time t) while passing through the tundish nozzle. The molten steel was subjected to alternating forward and reverse stirring.

FIG. 1 shows an example of the current flowing through the coil, and FIG. 2 is a diagram showing the relationship between the alternating stirring time t and the alumina (At203) adhesion amount index on the inner surface of the tundish nozzle. From Figure 2, the alternating stirring time t is 5 to 30 se.
In c, the amount of alumina attached was kept low, and the amount of alumina attached was reduced by 20 to 40% compared to the amount of alumina attached when no electromagnetic stirring was performed.

This invention has been made based on the above findings, and is intended to prevent the formation of a tundish nozzle for continuous casting, in which molten steel passing through the tundish nozzle is alternately stirred at intervals of 5 to 30 seconds. It is characterized by the fact that it has become a law.

If the alternating stirring time t is shorter than 5 seconds, the molten steel on the inner surface of the nozzle will be sufficiently stirred and the force will be too strong, so that there will not be a sufficient effect of preventing the nozzle from sticking. Further, if the alternating stirring time t is longer than 30 seconds, the At203 inclusions that have reached the inner surface of the nozzle react with the nozzle wall and have sufficient adhesion strength, so that a sufficient nozzle clogging prevention effect cannot be obtained.

As is generally well known, the molten steel flow near the inner surface of the nozzle forms a boundary layer (the flow velocity is very slow). Therefore, there is a method of applying electromagnetic force to the molten steel in the nozzle to spirally rotate it in one direction (Japanese Patent Laid-Open No. 56-7156
(see Publication No. 3) or alternating stirring with a long stirring cycle, At203 inclusions that have entered the boundary layer sufficiently react with the nozzle wall and become fixed. Therefore, the stirring direction must be changed within 30 seconds to destroy the boundary layer.
