[Detailed Description of the Invention] The present invention relates to an air column airbag used in an airbag system for protecting occupants in the event of a collision of a vehicle or the like.

As shown in FIG. 1, a conventionally known air column type airbag has a structure in which a plurality of air columns 2 are fixed to a base 3 within a bag 1 for protecting an occupant.

Although not shown, high-pressure gas is introduced into the air column 2 from a cylinder filled with high-pressure gas to inflate the air column 2. At this time, negative pressure is generated inside the bag 1, which is normally folded. This allows outside air to be taken in and the bag 1 to be expanded to protect the occupant.

However, with such a structure, an elongated air column 2 is required to deploy the bag 1, and therefore, the air column 2 tends to vibrate when the bag 1 is deployed, resulting in an incomplete unfolded shape and a failure to complete the deployment. This has the disadvantage that time is delayed and occupant protection is delayed.

On the other hand, if the air column 2 is shortened in order to speed up the deployment of the bag 1, the bag 1 will also be shortened, resulting in a drawback that the occupant protection performance will be insufficient.

Furthermore, if the cross-sectional area of the air column 2 is increased in order to eliminate the vibration of the air column 2, there is a drawback that the amount of gas required increases and the cylinder volume must be increased.

The present invention is an attempt to solve the above-mentioned drawbacks. In an air column type airbag having a plurality of air columns inside the bag, the main air column is provided extending into the bag from the side fixed to the vehicle body. and a first auxiliary air column, which has a cross-sectional area smaller than the main air column and is provided so as to integrally extend almost upward from the middle of the main air column, and a passenger contact surface from the expansion side end of the main air column. and four second secondary air columns extending toward the four corners of the side, and the air columns are inflatable from the side where the bag is fixed to the vehicle body to the passenger contacting surface side. Provides an air column type airbag that has a strong force for deploying the bag, has a high deployment speed, and can expand the shape of the bag to a large extent within the inflatable space, effectively absorbing the kinetic energy of the occupant. The purpose is to

Further, the tip of the main air column 11, that is, the inflation side end is formed into a conical shape, and the bag 10 is formed from this inflation side end.
Four cylindrical second secondary air columns 13 are provided that extend toward the four corners of the passenger contact surface, that is, the maximum expansion portion 1.

Further, the cross-sectional area of the first and second sub-air columns 12 and 13 is smaller than the cross-sectional area of the main air column 11.

Then, the main air column 11 expands toward the passenger to deploy the bag 10 toward the passenger, and then the first and second sub-air columns 12 and 13 are inflated and extended almost simultaneously by the high pressure gas.

Therefore, the negative pressure generated within the bag 10 causes outside air, that is, air inside the vehicle, to be sucked into the bag 10, and the bag 10 is deployed toward the passenger.

This intake of outside air continues until the inflation of each air column is completed, and the bag 10 is expanded into a predetermined shape by each air column as shown in FIG. 3, and the occupant is protected by this bag 10.

At this time, the main air column 11 has a large cross-sectional area and a strong force for holding the bag 10, and the first and second sub-air columns 12 and 13 have a smaller cross-sectional area but are shorter, so the bag 10 is held in a predetermined position. It can be quickly developed into a shape.

Moreover, a part of the bag 10 is deployed toward the instrument panel ■ side or the front window glass side by the first secondary air column 12, and the bag 10 is also held (positioned) by the instrument panel ■, etc. The amount of movement of the bag 10 when it collides with the bag 10 is minimized.

Therefore, it is possible to prevent the occupant's head from colliding with the instrument panel I or the windshield, and it is also possible to more quickly and reliably absorb the occupant's kinetic energy in the event of a vehicle collision, thereby safely protecting the occupant. .

Furthermore, when the bag 10 is deployed, the inside of the bag 10 is at almost atmospheric pressure, but each of the air columns 11 to 13 has a pressure of several atmospheres, which increases the rigidity. Since the bag 10 is extended to prevent the passenger from first hitting the hard second secondary air column 13, the impact when the passenger hits the bag 10 for the first time is very small.

Furthermore, the four second sub-air columns 13 can wrap and protect the occupant.

As described above, according to the present invention, the bag can be quickly expanded into a predetermined shape by each air column.

In addition, when an impact force is applied in the front-rear direction of the vehicle, the part near the base of at least two or more first secondary air columns is placed in front of the instrument panel to prevent the bag from moving forward while enveloping the occupant. In addition, the bag is supported by the area near the base of the first secondary air column, which restricts the bag from moving forward in the vehicle, reducing the amount of bag movement in the event of an occupant collision. This has the effect that the bag can be held by the first secondary air column.

Additionally, the capacity of the bag to absorb the kinetic energy of the occupant can be increased by increasing the volume of the bag.

In addition, since the first and second sub-air columns have a larger cross-sectional area and are supported by a main air column that is longer than the second sub-air column, the bag can be supported by the main air column with a stronger force.
Therefore, these factors combine to provide an excellent effect in that the kinetic energy of the occupant can be absorbed quickly and reliably.

In addition, since the present invention extends toward the four corners of the bag, which is the second secondary air column, the occupant is seated in a predetermined position when pressing the button, and the occupant feels stiff, especially when an impact force is applied in the longitudinal direction of the vehicle. The impact when the bag hits the bag can be minimized without hitting the second secondary air column, and the passenger can be protected by wrapping around the bag. Also, as mentioned above, the bag can be held by the first secondary air column, so the passenger can This prevents the head of the driver from colliding with the windshield, etc., making it extremely safe.
