Abstract

PURPOSE:To transmit light surely to optical fibers without clattering of optical elements in a housing contg. the optical elements by providing an elastic material in at least one of said housing and a back plate and supporting the optical elements elastically in recesses. CONSTITUTION:Optical elements 3a, 3b are contained respectively in the recesses 12a, 13b of a connector housing 12, and a back plate 13 is mounted to the rear surface of the housing 12 in such a way that the lead wires 9a, 9b of the elements 3a, 3b pass through respective holes 13a, 13b. The projections 12c, 12d of the housing 12 fit into the holes 13, 13g of the back plate so that the plate 13 does not easily disengage from the housing 12. In this state, cylindrical projecting parts 14a, 14b deflect to press the elements 3a, 3b firmly to the small hole 12e, 12f sides in the recesses 12a, 12b, whereby clattering is eliminated, and the optical axes and optical fibers 6a, 6b are aligned respectively.

This invention was made by focusing on such conventional problems, and includes an elastic material around at least one of the hole for extending the lead wire of the back plate that holds down the optical element and the small hole of the housing. The purpose of the present invention is to solve the above-mentioned problems by absorbing the dimensional tolerance of the optical element with this elastic body.

The optical elements am and 3b are housed in the recesses 12m and 12b of the connector housing 12, respectively, and then the back plate 13 is inserted so that the leads ilk and 9b of the optical elements 3b and 4a pass through the holes 131 and 13b, respectively. ! il on the back surface of the housing 12. In this state, the cylindrical protrusions 14m and 14b are bent to a height of 4 (k=0.3 to 0.8). Therefore, the optical elements &3b are firmly pressed against the small holes 12e, 12f in the recesses 12m, 12b, and there is no backlash, and the optical axes coincide with the optical fibers 6b, respectively.

In this case, the reason for setting 0.3≦k<1 is that if it is less than 0.3, the deflection will be too large, and depending on the material, cracks may occur in the cylindrical protrusions 14m and 14b, so that sufficient elasticity cannot be achieved. or the elastic force becomes too strong, causing damage to the optical element 3. Also, the reason why k<1 is set is that k
This is because if ≧1, looseness will occur due to tolerances as in the conventional case.

The dimensions of the optical element may differ from - to later, in which case the back plate, the cylindrical central part 15 & 15 of 13.
Just change the length of b. In that case, each dimensional relationship only needs to satisfy the above formula, and in that case, the value of k is 0.3≦k<1

A ring-shaped sponge serving as an elastic body may be attached to the end surface of 15b. In this case, the aforementioned k can also be made smaller than 0.3. Molding the back plate is easier because there are no thin parts, but on the other hand, making the sponge separately and pasting it on requires more time and effort. Further, the above-mentioned elastic body is provided alone or together with the cylindrical protrusions 15a and 15b at the portions that contact the optical elements 3b around the small diameters 12e and 12f. In that case, the same effect as in the above embodiment can be obtained. In this case, the surface of the elastic body that comes into contact with the optical element may be matched to the shape of the portion of the optical element that comes into contact with the elastic body.

As explained above, according to the present invention, the structure is such that an elastic body is provided on at least one of the housing and the pack plate that accommodates the optical element, and the optical element is elastically supported within the recess. This provides the effect that the optical element does not wobble within the housing and light can be reliably transmitted to the optical fiber.
