Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve resistance to creep and prevent falling of a cap at the time of forming a hat-shaped wheel cap made of synthetic resin by setting an elastic ring-shaped frame member in a space for forming a cap opening end of a metallic mold core before making injection molding. CONSTITUTION:In a space 23 to form therein an opening end of a wheel cap 1 at a joining part of cores 21, 22 of a for injection forming mold, an almost rectangular bench 26 is provided in a flang bottom forming part 25 of the wheel cap 1, and the elastic ring-shaped frame member 10 is set there so as to be prevented from its lateral slide by means of a pair of pins 27. Subsequently, injection molding is performed. Thus, the frame member 10 is buried and formed as one body in the flange of the wheel cap 1, and a part opposite to the bench 26 is formed like a window so as to allow visual recognition of the frame member 10. 従来、第1図に示すようにホイールキャップ1は車軸の

5における下部側に圧接せしめ、このナツト5の下部側
の間隙を利用して固定するものである。この場合、キャ
ップ1の側壁6に対し、外径方向に作用する曲げ弾性を
与え、この弾性力で鍔4の先端側をナツト5側に圧接す
るように固定するものであるが、これによればこのキャ
ップ1の曲げ剛性の小さいものは使用できず、このため
キャップ1を形成する材料が弾性力に富むものに特定化
されてしまい、材料選定が困難となると共に材料選定に
伴いコストが高くなるだけでなく、キャップ1の側壁6
側に常に内側方向の応力がかかシ、また熱履歴を受ける
ためにクリープ変形が生じ、これによシ鍔4のナツト5
への圧接力が弱くなってホイール用キャップの回転モー
メントが小さくなシ、車の振動で除々に回転し、キャッ
プ1が脱落する危険性を有し、また耐クリープ特性の良
好な材料しか使用できないので、上記と同様材料選定上
の問題が発生してしまうという問題を有していた。

た台26が設置されておシ、この台26の上に前記枠材
10が載置される。この枠材10は底壁25に植設され
た対向する一対のピン27.27によって横ずれしない
ように保持されている。

きる。本考案者による試験によれば、耐熱性を有するガ
ラス入りナイロン樹脂から成るホイール用キャップと、
耐熱性をあまり有しないポリプロピレンから成シ、かつ
枠材10を有するホイール用キャップとを80℃で4時
間維持し、ついで−30℃で1.5時間維持し、このサ
イクルを4回行なった所、前者は回転トルク比率が1か
ら0.6に低下したが、後する理由としては、樹脂が溶
融しナツト形状になじむからであると考えられる= 第10図は本発明のホイール用キャッ7ブの製造方法の
他の実施例を示す平面図であシ、本発明においてはピン
27.27の対向部分を軌跡とするような正円状軌跡l
の径よシも若干大きな径を有するリング状の枠材10を
ピン27.27の対向部分に装着するにあたり、同*I
に示すようにピン27.27で挾むべき枠材lOの一部
分をやや内側に変形させた状態で枠材10をピン27と
27の対向部分に装着するのである。このように枠材1
0を装着すると枠材10には常に外側に広がるような応
力が作用し、この状態でインジェクション成形を行なっ
て枠材10を一体化すると枠材10の上記応力によって
側壁6には常に外側方向の応力が作用するので経時的に
側壁6に発生する内側方向へのクリープ変形をよシ効果
的に抑えることができる。

方向のクリープ変形を防止でき、ホイール用キャップの
回転モーメントの低下にもとづく脱落を防止できる。又
枠材を金型の成形空間に予めセットしておくだけで枠材
をホイール用キャップの所定の位置に一体化することが
できるので、枠材の一体化作業が極めて容易となる。尚
、本発明において枠材10をホイール用キャップの鍔に
一体化するとして説明したが、本発明はこれに限定され
ず、ホイール用キャップの側壁側に設けるようにしても
良く、又複数本の枠材を設けても良い。
