Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve combustion and reduce an amount of exhausted soot or unburnt components by providing a small piston which is inserted into a cavity in communication with a swirl sub-chamber near a top dead center of a piston.
CONSTITUTION: A small piston 5 is raised from the peripheral area of a head of a piston 3. Is formed a cavity 8 into which the small piston 5 is inserted near a top dead center point of the piston. A swirl sub-chamber 10 is made, communicating with a main combustion chamber 7 via a communication port 9. The small piston 5 compresses an air inside the cavity 8 near the top dead center point of the piston 3 and squeezes said compressed air into the swirl sub-chamber 10 via a communication port 11 by the squish effect. Thereby, an unburnt mixture inside the swirl sub-chamber 10 is forced into the main combustion chamber 7 via the communication port 9 and then ignited for combustion. This increases an efficiency of using an air so that a combustion efficiency may be improved.
