Abstract
PURPOSE:To increase the life of a tool and improve machining efficiency of drilling hard-to-cut and very hard materials, by using a laser beam beyond conception of a conventional drilling tool, softening a work material and reducing cutting resistance. CONSTITUTION:A carbide drill with a laser beam through hole is constituted by a shank 4, neck 8 and an edge part 5 of the drill main unit. An oscillating device of the laser is mounted to an upper part of the shank 4, then a work is heated and softened by focusing laser light immediately below an edge part of the drill, thus drilling work can be performed at high speed without damaging the point end edge of a hard fragile drill. In this way, a laser beam is used beyond conception of a conventional drilling tool to soften a work and reduce cutting resistance, not only extending the life of a tool but improving the machining efficiency of drilling hard-to-cut and very hard materials.
