Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a sealing material or a sliding material having exellent strength, by extruding filled polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) and molding the extrudate into a shape to which load is applied in the extrusion direction.
CONSTITUTION: 5W50wt% fibrous filler such as glass fiber is blended with an aq. dispersion of PTFE having a primary particle size of 0.2W0.5μ and the resulting compound is extruded. The coefficient of thermal expansion of the extrudate in the extrusion direction is pref. 5×10-5/°C or below at 25W100°C and 8× 10-5/°C or below at 25W250°C. Then the extrudate is cut in round slices to form a sealing material or a sliding material having a structure in which load is applied to the material in the extrusion direction when used.
