Abstract

PURPOSE: A covering matrial for optical glass fiber in which a polyester having acryl or methacryl groups on both molecular terminals is used to give increased adhesion to glass even in low viscosity and curing rate and to form flexible coating films.
CONSTITUTION: The covering material is mainly composed of a polyester of 300 or more average molecular weight having acryl or methacryl groups at least on both molecular terminals. When necessary, the polyester is combined with a compound bearing one or more additionally polymerizable double bonds such as acrylic ester, methacrylic ester or allyl ester. Since the material has low viscosity and large curing rate, the productivity in the coating of optical glass fiber is high. Further, it forms flexible coating films, resulting in increased strength and reiability of optical glass fiber.
