Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain a magnetic tape which is free of creases and curvature and never varies in electromagnetic conversion characteristics, by forming a magnetic metallic thin film of the surface of a plastic film and by winding the tape while slitting both its widthwise end parts to specific width after pressing the tape in contact with a heat roller with constant tensile force. CONSTITUTION:On a plastic film surface 21, a magnetic metallic film 22 is vapor-deposited. In this case, creases 23 are generated at the boundary between an nonmetallic part and the metallic film. If the film is wound as it is, the attitude of winding is disordered and when it is sized long, creases 23' are generated at the center part. To prevent those, the film after the vapor deposition is pressed against <=1 heat roll, thus eliminating the creases, curvature, etc. Then, both the end parts are slit to 5-30mm. width including the unnonmetallic part 21 and a metallic part to wind the film. The variations of electromagnetic conversion characteristics of a magnetic tape obtained as mentioned above are reduced. Thus, the quality and yield of the magnetic tape are improved.
