Abstract

PURPOSE: To remove growth inhibiting components, and to obtain serum for cultivation having improved propagating properties, by filtering serum using a separation membrane having a specific inhibiting ratio aginst γ-globulin and β- lipoprotein.
CONSTITUTION: Serum is filtered by a separation membrane exhibiting an inhibiting ratio of γ-globulin of ≤90%, preferably 20W70%, and an inhibiting ratio of β-liproprotein of ≥20%, preferably ≥50%, to give serum for cultivation. A membrane of a material, e.g., polymethyl methacrylate type, polyvinyl alcohol type, and polycarbonate type is preferable as the separation membrane. Even if adult bovine serum lacking propagating properties is used as an ingredient, the separation and removal of the growth inhibiting components by using this membrane give serum for cultivation having the same propagating properties as or more than those of bovine fetus serum or bovine infant serum.
