Abstract

PURPOSE: To heighten the effect of cooling of the cylinder of an internal combustion engine and prevent the corrosion of metal parts, by using liquid of higher boiling point such as heat medium oil than water to cool the cyinder.
CONSTITUTION: The cylinder of an internal combustion engine is cooled by liquid of higher boiling point such as heat medium oil than water. When the heat medium oil is used for the cooling, the cooled temperature of the einge can be easily heightened to 100°C or more as the structure of the engie remains unchanged, because the boiling point of the heat medium oil is 300°C or more under the atmospheric pressure. In that case, no steam is generated in some part to cause local overheating. Since the heat medium oil in its nature does not corrode metal, the water jacket does not corrode due to the oil. The cylinder of the internal combustion engine can thus be effectually cooled by the liquid of higher boiling point than water.
