Abstract

PURPOSE: To enable to perform a reliable measurement and to enable lengthening of a measuring instrument life and saving of labor, by a method wherein a cleansing gas current is formed in the proximity of a light quantity detector for detecting an internal condition of a device which heats a radioactive material by means of microwave.
CONSTITUTION: An internal condition of a heater 1 for heating a radioactive material 3 in a microwave direct denitrating device is detected by a light detector 6 which detects a luminescence phenomenon created by an oxide powder resulting from the completion of a denitrating reaction. A gas current is produced in the proximity of the detector 6 by means of air flowing from a gas inlet 8 to exercise on the detector 6 no bad influence which is exerted by a correction gas, radioactive powder dust, and conduction heat being produced resulting from the irradiation with microwave. This enables the reliable measurement of the inside of the heater, and also the better protection of measuring instruments, which results in lengthening the measuring instrument life and saving of labor resulting from the reduction in the number of converting times.
