Abstract
PURPOSE:To improve measurement sensitivity of frequency characteristics by propagating along optical fibers to photosignals corresponding to the choppered variable frequency signals, and detecting synchronously and dividing these photosignals by chopper frequency signals and their reverse phase signals. CONSTITUTION:Variable frequency modulation signals from a modulation signal generator 1 are applied to a driving circuit 4 via a gate 3 controlled by chopper signals of a certain frequency from a chopper signal generator 2, and an electricity-light convertor 5 is started. Lights corresponding to variable frequency modulation signals and non-modulation signals from this convertor 5 propagate along an optical fiber 6, and are changed to electric signals at a light-electricity converter 7. Then, modulation and non-modulation signals which respond to receive lights with chopper frequency signals through a reverse circuit 10 are detected at synchronization detectors 8 and 9, and processed at a dividing calculator 11. Thus propagation characteristics of the fiber 6 can be determined with good S/N without influence of variable generation of light-outputs and noises. Therefore frequency characteristics can be measured with high sensitivity especially in the high region with a large loss of optical fibers.
