Abstract
PURPOSE:To perform branching and joining between a main line and a branch line with small loss by inserting wedge type reflecting mirrors between the optical transmission lines of the main line consisting of a pair of opposite rod lenses and optical fibers, thereby forming the transmission lines of the branch lines. CONSTITUTION:A square column 10 made of transparent glass of which the leading end part is wedge type reflecting mirrors 11, 12 between the transmission line of a main line consisting of a pair of oposite rod lenses 4, 5 and optical fibers 1, 2, and the transmission line of a brnach line consisting of a rod lens 9 and an optical fiber 8 is provided in opposition to this. The exit light from the fiber 1 is made into parallel beams of light by the lens 4, and the light in the central part is reflected by the reflection plane 11, is converged by the lens 9 and is made incident to the fiber 9. The other light is made incident to the fiber 2. On the other hand, the incident light from the fiber 8 is reflected by the reflection planes 11, 12 and is made incident to the fibers 1, 2. Thereby, the branching and joining between the main line and branch line are accomplished with small loss.
