Abstract

PURPOSE:To measure the irregularity of the road surface quickly and accurately by irradiating a laser beam in a form of plane light on the road surface, sensing the reflected light by TV cameras, and measuring the amount of the misalignment of the profiles of the cross section of the road by the video signal. CONSTITUTION:The laser light from a laser transmitter 5 mounted on the vehicle is transformed into the plane light Lrp and irradiated on the road surface 2. Said light is picked up by four TV camera 11-14 which form angle theta with the road surface 2. The video signals e1-e4 are transformed into binary values. The cross sectional profiles l1-l4 of the road surface 2 are stored in a binary memory 22. The amounts of the misalignments h1-h1024 from a reference line LS are measured at each position of the cross sectional profile by a processor 24.
