Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain solid fuel by effectively utilizing oil sludge and to improve pollution problems on the fuel combustion, by adding quick lime and ferric sulfate to oil sludge.
CONSTITUTION: By adding a powder forming agent composed mainly of quick lime and ferric sulfate to oil sludge discharged from oil tankers, heat is spontaneously generated and heavy metals in oil sludge and odor are absorbed by calcium in the powdered agent. Pref. a viscosity depressant such as aluminum oxide or activated aluminum is added to lower the viscosity of oil sludge. It is also preferred to add a gas generating agent such as calcium carbonate when oil sludge is powdered. In the powdering of oil sludge, an anionic or nonionic surfactant is added to remove water contained in oil sludge and difficultly separated. The powdered oil sludge is molded by using a binder to facilitate its use as fuel.
