Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve wear resistance by forming a chromium plating film on the sliding surface of the pawl part of a fork and by specifying it surface roughness. CONSTITUTION:The pawl part of a shift fork made of cast iron is plated with chromium, and the coating surface is polished with a buff to <=5muRz surface roughness. First, the shift fork is cast with a known material and cut to 10muRz surface rounghness. Then, only the pawl parts 2 and 3 of the fork 1 are dipped in a fluoride bath of chromic acid anhydride, sulfuric acid, and silicofluoride and left at about 50 degrees for an 1-3/2hr. Thus, the plating film thickness is 20-30mum and film hardness is about 850-900Hv, so buff polishing is performed with abrasive grains having >=#250 grain size to obtain <=5muRz surface roughness.
