Abstract
PURPOSE:To increase the capacity and the cycle life of a sealed lead battery by pressing a porous separator against a plate with increased pressure in assembling the battery, and using sulfuric acid of increased concentration. CONSTITUTION:A liquid holding material, which principally consists of glass fiber and also serves as a separator, is impregnated with sulfuric acid, the specific gravity of which at the end of the charge at ordinary temperature becomes over 1.30. For the purpose of suppressing the separation of micro PbO2 crystal grains which are developed by the repetition of charge-and-discharge, the liquid holding material is compressed with a pressure of over 20kg/dm<2> in assembling a sealed lead acid battery. By the means mentioned above, the capacity and the cycle life of the sealed lead acid battery, which contains a limited amount of electrolyte, are increased.
