Abstract
NEW MATERIAL:A phenol derivative of formula I [R1 is H, alkyl or -COR' (R' is alkyl, hetero-ring containing N as hetero-atom, etc.); R2 is H, alkoxy, (alkyl- substituted) carbamoyloxy, etc.; R3 and R5 are H or alkyl; R4 is H, phenyl, -NHCO- B [B is carboxy, (amino-substituted) alkyl, etc.]; provided that at least one of R2 and R4 is not H].
EXAMPLE: N-[N'(Ethoxyphenyl)-carbamoyl]glycine.
USE: An analgesic agent which is low toxic and does not form methemoglobin.
PROCESS: The compound of formula I wherein R4 is -NHCO-B is prepared e.g. by reacting phenyl isocyanate of formula II derived from corresponding acid azide with a primary or secondary amine in an inert solvent, pref. in the presence of a base, at -20W+80°C for 5minW5hr.
